Default downloading email attachments

A teenager at home have altered the temporary Internet Files on my computer and now I can not download and open any attachements I receive thru my emails. When I try it I get the following response:

Power Point can't read c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temporary internet files\content.IES\N98GWDJR\.....

He does not know how to undue what he did. Can someone help?

You could save it (right click on the attachment) to 'My Documents' first and then open it from there

Sounds like a corrupt file to me. The location you are refering to is a temporary place where the power point file you are trying to open is placed when you click "Open" in the file download dialog.

Have you tried downloading the file you want to view again from the original source, saving it to your desktop and then opening it from your desktop. That should work.

Many files are corrupted easily in temporary files places so saving to your desktop and opening is a safer bet.

I have seen errors like this many times, especially in IE7 after clicking "Open" rather than "Save" in the file download dialog.

Hope that helps .

If I save it in the computer then I can open it. The problem is that I get to many emails with attachments and I would rather not save them all. This problem happens with all my attachements including word docs, excell docs, etc.. I could open them before with out saving them. Is this problem hard to fix? Thanks for taking your time to help.

It's impossible to tell what the problem is (and therefore how to fix it) as it can be caused by so many things. Don't forget, if you save them to the desktop and don't want to keep them after viewing them you can send them to the recycle bin.

It is a quick and easy work around to your problem, probably the quickest. Without looking at your computer or knowing the circumstances of how it arose there is no easy solution to it.

You could reinstall your operating system if you want?

Hope that helps .

you will need to correct permission of c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temporary internet files\content.IES\N98GWDJR\.....

go to the directory c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temporary internet files\content.IES\N98GWDJR and check permission on the file which is giving problems for power point.

Also it may help to run virus / spyware / adware scans on your computer to ensure that there is no rogue third party software creating problems for you.

Well, you could try to delete everything in the
c:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temporary internet files\....

beside, it was just a temporary place for files.
it won't hurt nobody

if the problem keep occurring(after deleting), restore the files from the recycle bin.

Yes, it never hurts clearing these out every once in a while - it saves you some disk space as well .
