Default flash movies in Joomla

I am using a joomla template for my front end. It appears that I cant use a swf file as a banner. I know the general format is gif for banners but I want to get a bit flashy with flash. Is there a way to have a flash file as a banner?

Also.. wots with the "click here to activate control" bull? how do I get rid of that its really irritating!!

Not sure of the make-up of joomla but my phpfusion website hosting has a flash banner in the subheader.php file by inserting this:

PHP Code:
render_header("<center><embed src=lightning.swf
quality=high
pluginspage=http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/index.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash type=application/x-shockwave-flash
width=805
height=100
bgcolor=#2E2E2E
scale=showall>
</embed></center>"
);
the flash is in the root of the website hosting (lightning.swf) along with it's control file (lightning.txt)

you can see it here http://www.risk-planetside.com

the click to activate stuff was down to a lawsuit microsoft lost a bit back regarding the people that came up with the embed tag, there are a few different javascript based work arounds on the net, SWFObject is one.
