Default HELP! - Failed Email Deliveries from 'forged' user

I’m getting a large number of failed delivery email returns for emails I have neither sent or that have obvious ‘hacked names’ from my address.

I highlighted the issue to support a couple of weeks ago for help and advise. Got the usual we’ll get back to you but as usual again-nothing.

The dodgy mail returns stopped. Great thinks I, “they’ve fixed it.” So I decide to send a few test emails from other accounts none of which turned up.

Presuming nothing was working I emailed support again yesterday (19th Oct) asking if there was a problem. Checking my email this morning, guess what 56 mails! All spam or failed delivery returns.

Is there any chance of help resolving this issue or do I for the second time in 3 years seek out a host that is capable of providing some kind of customer service.

Please can someone help me………Desperate David

My domain is: www. international-atemijujitsu.co.uk
Email: webmaster[@]international-atemijujitsu.co.uk

This is one of numerous examples of the header info on the emails:

Subject: Mail delivery failed: returning message to sender
From: "Mail Delivery System" <Mailer-Daemon@t-online.de>
Date: Thu, October 20, 2005 7:36 am
To: KimAlexanderalameda[@]international-atemijujitsu.co.uk

I don't know how they do it but they're using my domain email.

P.S. Just checked my mail box again, there were another 8 similar names

None of this email addresses are setup from your control panel. I saw that there's only one mailbox and that is test[@]international-atemijujitsu.co.uk which was created by our support team to check mail service for your account.

Please create mailboxes for the accounts which have email problems as you cannot expect email service to work properly without creating mailboxes. Spam senders were using your email addresses in reply to field as you had setup catchall account.

Please make sure that you donot setup catchall as spoofers and spam senders will use your email address in reply to field for their spams. I have disabled the catchall right now to stop the incoming bounceback messages. Please setup this mailboxes to have your mailservices work properly.

Excuse me! But I have been using that account sucessfully for 2 years! If things have changed they're not my doing.

I've had this before with a perfectly working guestbook which suddenly stopped working without me ever touching it.

So someone, not me, has changed something. This is exactly what I mean by customer service. You don't supply it. Everytime I've had a problem (not often I'll admit) you've always pointed at something I've done.

As I have not touched my email settings since I created the account 2 years ago - please explain how this problem has occured.....

After my recent post I spent a few minutes checking my email settings in control panel my 'webmaster' account has disapeared (s'pose I must have deleted that then had my memory wiped) and I can't find any reference to:

....Please make sure that you donot setup catchall as spoofers and spam senders will use your email......

Okay, the story so far......
I've recreated the 'webmaster' mail box, deleted the 'test' mailbox and things work, sort of.

Now I can't configure my email client (outlook) to receive mail from this recreated mail box, but it will pick it up from the original.

Could someone please point me in the right direction on how I can resolve this issue- pretty please even.

I know £30 a year doesn't make me an important client and generally I'm happy with the hosting service. Thing is, I've already advised several other people to look elswhere for there hosting solutions and I'm about to do some work for 2 family members. So, by my reckoning, that's about £240 you could have had on my recommendations - not enough to move to St. Tropez, but every little helps......

Hello Aelius,

This issue would have got resolved in less than 10 mins if you had come on our livechat or called our 24x7 Toll Free number. We dont distinguish between £30 and £0.30 when its come to customer service as all thats important to us is our name.

You need to take a close look at http://eukhost.com/euk/outlook.php as we have very good explanation over here to help you in configuring your oulook. If you continue to face problems with it then immediately come on our livechat or send email to support@eukhost.com as forum is just for discussion and response time is slow to the posts on forums.

Okay, I've been away for a while due to a death in the family so I'd like to now get this issue resolved.

Andrew, you obviously haven't read any of the comments. Email support you say, resolved in 10 minutes - my first post (dated 22/10) actually details that I contacted support. As yet still not heard anything! THE MAIN REASON WHY I POSTED HERE

Rather than getting all defensive, read what's written and take note. I wasn't having a pop about being a £30 a year whatever customer, merely pointing out that there was potential for your business to have even more £30 per year customers.

What amazes me is that things that were working perfectly, like guestbooks (a previous simpler version) a 'poll' and page counter all suddenly stopped functioning correctly without any interference from me and yet when I've raised the issue either through 'live chat' or via support the inference has always been that I've changed something - I've just shrugged my shoulders and got on with it.

Now I'll state again for the record, I'm generally happy with the service, and at the moment I am still considereing renewing my hosting fee when it's due early next year. All I ask is for a little help.

The facts as follows:
1) Email working perfectly via on-line brower mail Squirrel etc or downloaded to Outlook
2) Spammed emails being bounced from my mail box
3) Reported problem, bounced mails stop
4) Can no longer access mail through Outlook and have to log in through Control Panel rather than the shortcut I created.

I have several email accounts all configured correctly, so I'm reasonably confident that that this one is......

So please, help with this problem is all I ask for

regards
David

Default OKay - issue resolved

Okay, sorted now I think, although I would like some advise on how to prevent the 'forged' email bounces.

If your getting emails bounced to you email address from your board. Do a check that a member has not registered then changed his email later that causing the email bounces.

I had a same problem were a trouble maker registered and then changed his email after to: support@hotmail.com

This was being bounced back to my own email account from the board because he use it. If it happens again, scan members emails to see if they are using that email address.

This forum is hardly 2 months old and thats the reason it appears to be slow right now. We are trying to populate the forum to make it UK's best forum.

Regards,
Mark.

Well the idea is good because it can be used to get better feedback on server issues and help from other members. But I do know of another host that have been doing this for ages using IPB.

What made you go with phpBB?

phpBB is good yes, I used to use it for years. But compared to boards like vBuleltin and IPB, there is a different league.

Also you should take a look at a great free forum board if anybody is interested called MyBB. It's just as powerful as vB and IPB and FREE. And no I don't work for them

Yes, but how easy is it to design mods for? I love messing around in the source.

Well it has the same built in admin template system as vBulletin to easy create custom skins without hacking a single file. On the mods front, well there is growing support for it.

But the board by default have features that you would have to hack a phpbb board to bit to get anyway that MyBB already has as default like Uploading files for example to your board.

Download it and install it as a test board, you'll be very impressed with the features it as like built in homepage (basic portal) type system along with all the other admin powerful board features
