How to Install Joomla

What is Joomla?

Joomla! is a free open source content management system for publishing content on the World Wide Web and intranets. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. Best of all, Joomla is an open source solution that is freely available to everyone.

How to install Joomla ?

1. Download MSI installer of Joomla from joomla.org/download.html and save it on the server.

2. Create the Mysql database from your Windows Plesk control panel with appropriate username & password.

3. Extract the Zip file on your local machine and upload the Joomla folder into the httpdocs folder of your domain

4. Set modify permissions to the httpdocs folder.You can use the File Manager option in your Windows Plesk control panel. Give modify permissions to IWAM_ & IUSR_ users.

5. If you want Joomla to be installed in a sub folder of your domain then it will be required to set as an Application directory. You can go to the Web Directories option in Plesk control panel and click on Creat new virtual directory option.

6. Once it done, browse the path Joomla.com/Joomla

7. Start Joomla Installation Wizard.

Setting up Joomla! to run on your server involves four easy steps. The first step is database configuration. Choose your preferred settings:

Basic Setting : Select the type of database from the drop down list. This will generally be MySQL.

Enter the hostname of the database server Joomla! will be installed on. This may not necessarily be the same as your Web server so check with your hosting provider if you are not sure.

Enter the MySQL username, password and database name you wish to use with Joomla!. These must already exist for the database you are going to use.

5 : FTP Configuration :

Due to file system permission restrictions on Linux and other Unix systems (and PHP Safe Mode restrictions), an FTP layer is used to handle file system manipulation and enable Joomla! installers.

Note: If you are installing on a Windows Operating System, the FTP layer is not required.

6) Main Configuration :

Confirm the Admin E-mail and Password

Enter your e-mail address. This will be the e-mail address of the Web site Super Administrator.
Enter a new password and then confirm it in the appropriate fields. Along with the username admin, this will be the password that you will use to login to the Administrator Control Panel at the end of the installation.
If you are migrating, you can ignore this section. Your current settings will be automatically migrated.
