Default I think I must be stupid

I have spent all day trying to upload a website hosting.

I built the website hosting using Visual Web Dev express - the thing runs fine on my PC.

But I cannot for the life of me work out how to upload it.

If someone could explain the steps I need to take I would really appreciate it.
(instruction should be Idiot proof as I am an accomplished idiot)

In desperation I even created a simple default.htm in frontpage, just to put something on the website hosting - when I tried to up load it I got message file transfer ok - but it was not there.

You can upload you website hosting using an FTP program,

I recomend file zilla http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/

easy to use and free

Enter the FTP info you recieved when signing up click connect and it will show a directory of the server you are on.

Upload to public_html folder so people can view your website hosting

I got the FTP (zilla) client to connect ok and upload a whole web page

Well now I have a lonely solitary webpage sitting on the website hosting - but I cant view it

Plus the only way to get to the website hosting is by ip address - the domain name is still not usable.( but it was only registered yesterday so thats maybe why).

I have a distinct feeling now that I screwed up the directory  and maybe thats the reason I am having problems.

Can you provide your website hosting URL or domain name so we can help you further?

I had a domain name that took two days to propagate this week - and another one that took a full day. The usual 'fob' of allowing three days for propagation is in danger of becoming true - Gonna have to start telling clients that it can take up to five days

So be patient on the domain name

the url is rendering correctly - so make sure that you have removed (or renamed - which might be safer for now) the current default.html page. and rename your page to default.html or index.html

Looks okay to me, there's an 'under construction page' ...

"The website hosting is currently under construction. It will be online soon. Thank you for your patience while we build our website hosting. Please visit us again"

Your nameservers are okay on all root servers (http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/traver...re.net&type=NS) and your DNS is fine (http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/dnsrep...g-software.net)

If you are still having problems viewing your website hosting, it could be down to your ISP using a stale DNS cache (wannadoo are often culprits, but other ISPs can fall foul of this). Try using a proxy if you want to confirm things for yourself.

Locally, you could also try emptying your browser cache, run ipconfig /flushdns from the Run dialogue (presuming you are using windows) and restart your browser.

Your directory is showing that you have renamed the default to 'old default.htm' which is good - but there doesn't seem to be a file that you have uploaded? You must upload your default.htm to your www directory.

I can see that you have renamed the default.htm to 'old default.htm' but there are none of your files yet uploded. You must upload your default.htm file to your www directory.

OOPS - sent that twice lol It's only cos I'm going mad!

I will try flushing my dns (although I did reboot earlier whilst swearing at the computer )

1 day to put 1 webpage up - by that rate it should be fully functional just before I have to renew the domain registration.

Thank you for your help though - (I wish this web lark was as easy as writing a database)
