Default Sftp

I was wondering about SFTP and if its available on standard windows reseller packages. As I understand it, it makes it easier to update web pages than FTP as it allows for partial file uploads and interrupted file uploads.

I've been intrigued by SFTP for a while but hosting companies often don't mention its availability or simply don't provide the facility.

I can't find if my reseller package does have SFTP available or not so was wondering if it does - or if it could be setup.

thanks

p.s. I put this in tutorials as I wasn't sure where else would be appropriate.

I'm not sure whether SFTP is "easier" than FTP.

As far as I understand it, it is just more secure than FTP. Like https is to http. cPanel states that SFTP is available and gives instructions on how to use it in the FTP Accounts manager although I have never tried it to see if it works / is available.

Hope that helps .

nope. SFTP is combination of Shell and FTP so its not possible on windows as Windows has nothing called Shell Access.

Easier in the sense that it allows for incremental file updates rather than replacing the whole file - which presumably would help bandwidth control as a decent side-affect.

I suppose that is a consideration to take into account when choosing between FTP and SFTP (where available).

Just bumping this question as it might have gotten lost in the last few posts. I expect that it isn't but I'd like to know if SFTP is available on the windows reseller hosting. And if it isn't - are there any plans to bring it to eukhost packages?

It wont be possible to include SFTP unless it is supported by Plesk or HostingController. its not feasible to add custom packages of servers which are not supported by respective control panels.

If you have WS FTP Pro for FTP then you can check that it has got support for many SSH commands. You can use WS FTP Pro to get similar functionalities like SFTP.

Thanks for the info - I have used WS_FTP Pro quite a bit but prefer fileZilla these days just because of the layout. There are a couple of file transfer apps which get good reviews but are for sFTP only - hence my query - but I can live without them. I was mostly curious as to why hosting companies never seem to mention sFTP as an option and it would seem that PLesk/Hosting controller is that reason. I'm less confused now lol. Thanks again.

I also didn't know the reason behind SFTP not being supported here. It is interesting to find out these things!
