CMS or not ?
Hi all,
I have been doing some reading on Joomla and Drupal and wonder just how good they are and if they would suit me ?
I want to run a forum, blog, image gallery and maybe a webpage, am I right in thinking that a CMS would bring them all together as it were under the same roof ?
My current method has been to use a different domain for each item and then cross link them.
Any advice as usual much appreciated !
Regards,
Jon

Hi Brian,
Like the avatar, reminds me of my rave days at Fantasia, Cream and other venues. I see you know the Dam, now why does'nt that suprise me ?! I used to spend a lot of time over there in the cafes sampling the many varieties of coffee available . . .
Thanks for your reply, I'd be interested to know how you go with your plans for Joomla, everything I've seen about it says it's supposedly the easiest of the CMS systems to use. What's the verdict so far then ?!
I'll keep checking your sites but if you could keep in touch I'd appreciate it.
Laters . . .
Jon

Hello,
Joomla is one of the most popular CMS used these days due to its simplicity and addon modules. However the fact still remains that Joomla does not run with mod_security enabled and opens your site to hackers if you have used any of its unsuported or insecure module.
I am not trying to scare you...just want to put the facts in front of you.

That said, Joomla! Can be very handy and is pretty easy to use.... I've been using it for a couple of years, although I cannot seem to get it to work here at EUKHost...!!!!!

Not without a little tweaking. You would have to download an Image Gallery module and install it into the site, it's not that tricky if you have a good grasp of what you're doing. Same with Forums, although you can combine 3 very powerful PHP sites into one using Coppermine and PHPBB bridges (I'd post a link but you'll have to find it yourself due to my not posted enough rubbish yet to put links in posts!!!!!)

I'm using joomla for my personal site at www.jcrass.co.uk. Granted mod_security has to be disabled however providing you have other things in place it shouldn't cause too much of an issue.

I'm building a Joomla based site at the moment. It's nice that there are so many add-ons and extras available since then you can build it up to be what you want it to be.
Also, your site doesn't work Jonathon.

Lol. This would be some VPS issues I'm having this weekend. Http.conf got screwed which is where I was disabling safe mode. All done now if people want to have a look.

I too am testing Joomla 1.5 (using Joomla for the first time) at present as a subdomain. Can anyone guide me on its url issues. I am looking for an addon/plugin to enable me set my urls to look like subdomain.domain-name.com/category-name/page-name.ext.
WP is giving me such an ability but I haven't found any addon for Joomla.
Second:
On the frontpage, I want to display excerpts (make them 'public') of my inner pages which can be viewed only by registered members (access level 'registered'). How to achieve this?
Thanks
