Default cPanel Code Editor

In the file manager there is an option to edit files. There are three options (that I can see): Edit, Code Editor and HTML Editor. None of them seem to do anything. I select a file and click on one of these icons. The little window appears ("Loading Code Editor...") but after a couple of seconds it disappears and nothing else happens.

Any ideas?

Cool

Hi Paul,

While accessing the code editor from the cPanel, option Block pop up windows should be unchecked in the browser. I have tried accessing the code editor from cPanel and faced the same issue. Allowing pop up window worked for me.

Not sure how/what exactly you are trying to access the code editor. Try Allowing the pop up Window from the browser and check once.

You can visit our Live Chat if you still face the issue.

Yeah - its the pop-up blocker in Firefox. The code editor doesn't actually open in a pop up, it opens a new tab in Firefox which is why I didn't think it was the problem. But it was. And all is now fine.

Glad to hear that you manage to access Code Editor from cPanel.

Glad to hear it's fine - but why would you want to? I find it much better to edit my local copy and upload that (FireFTP add-on for Firefox). Then you always have your local copy and the online website in synch (and also there is something about editing 'live' files that jarrs with me - guess it's my mainframe roots )

I prefer editing my files locally, too, but there are times when it's really too much trouble to download, edit, then re-upload the file via FTP. Simple things like a missing comma or apostrophe in the code, or just fixing a type. Times like those, I prefer the simpler solution, and that's cPanel's built-in editor.
