Default Cpanel Login Certificate Errors

Cpanel Login Certificate Errors

Many times cpanel users are having issues with getting SSL certificate warnings when they try to login and access cPanel. This security error occurs while accessing a URL in which the name of the site does not match the domain to which you had put on your SSL certificate. For example, "server.eukhost.com" would be listed on the certificate as your server. Usually, your connection will go to "login.server.eukhost.com" when you login to cPanel. This is what what we call mismatch error.

This message can be triggered depending on the security settings you have in your web browser. The connection is still secure however warning is just for the notification of difference in name.

Internet Explorer 6

Quote:
In Internet Explorer 6, you will receive a message pop up as a security alert asking you if you wish to trust the certifying authority. Under "Do You want to proceed?" click the "Yes" button.
Internet Explorer 7

Error messages can be stopped permanently by accepting the server certificate which will work fine until the next annual renewal of certificate.

Quote:
In IE 7, choose continue to website and once you are logged into cPanel, right click on the page and select properties from the menu. Click on Certificates button then click on install certificate button and follow the rest of the wizard.
Firefox 2

Quote:
In Firefox 2, select "Accept the certificate permanently" when you receive the error message. This will also ensure that you won't receive error message again.
Firefox 3 or above

In Firefox 3, you will be warned with a security message box when trying to login to your cPanel . In the message it will say something to the effect of:

Quote:
server.eukhost.com:2083 uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it is self signed.
(Error code: sec_error_untrusted_issuer)
To get rid of this error message, at the bottom of the screen you will see a button that says, "Add Exception...". Click on that and another box should pop up. On that box, you should see the words "Add Security Exception".

Click on the "Get Certificate" button and then make sure the check mark box for "Permanently store this exception" is checked. On the bottom of the popup window click on Confirm Security Exception. It will then ask you to confirm. A new box pops up telling you the information must be resent to try to login again - click the "Resend" button and you are done.

Cool The solution for Cpanel Login Certificate Errors

The solution for Cpanel Login Certificate Errors..........................

Login root account

Go to SSL/TLS menu and select SSL Key/Crt Manager

In the Certificates find the yourhostname.crt file and click the Download icon. Yourhostname should of course be your hostname, usually xyz.com or whichever hostname you use (the one that shows in the address bar of your WHM). So in this example you need the hostyourspace.co.uk.crt certificate.

Copy everything from (including) -----BEGIN CERTIFICATE----- to (including) -----END CERTIFICATE-----

Paste the copied certificate code in a plain text editor (like Notepad or Wordpad in Windows) and save the file (plain text) as whmcertificate.crt

Now open Internet Explorer 7, from the toolbar select Tools and Internet Options.

Select Content tab and click the Certificates button.

In the new Certificates window select the Trusted Root Certification Authorities tab.

Click Import..., Next, select your certificate (whmcertificate.crt), Next and Finish

When asked if you want to import a new certificate click YES and you should get an Import successful message.

Close all windows, restart Internet Explorer and your WHM certificate is now trusted, no more warning messages!

Great solution... however if you are a reseller try asking the customer who has trouble even simply entering a login and password to Outlook, to do this

I usually just tell customers the same as Jack has posted above, click yes and ignore the certificate error etc, its just because the browser thinks there is a problem. There is no problem, it's just that in some cases the certificate is supplied by cpanel.net, a domain which doesn't match the server hostname.

The browser just think's something is fishy.
