Default Creating Mail forwarders

Hi,

I haven't changed my nameservers yet for a domain I have setup as I'd like to make sure all the mail setups are in place first. I can setup pop accounts, but how do I setup mail forwarders. Also where are the settings for spam setup for mail. Can this be setup on a domain basis rather than individual pop accounts.

Thanks

Paul

Mail Forwarding and catchall is not supported with existing version of Hosting Controller but Hc 7.0 has got this support. HC 7.0 is in Beta version right now so we are delaying upgrade as of now.

You can open a ticket for our support team and we will setup forwarders from admin panel of MailEnable. MailEnable has got internal spam protection configured so there is no need for something like spamassassin in control panel.

Hosting Controller lacks few features in comparision with cpanel or plesk but hosting controller is much stable in comparision with Plesk and the automated backup and restore service available with hosting controller makes our life easy in case of hardware failure or any other problems with servers.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the quick response. However I am worried that Host Controller doesn't offer me anyway near enough flexability compared with the linux offerings.

I want to be able to configure spam settings on at least a domain level basis, an ideally on an account level basis. I also want to decide what is spam and what isn't, not have something outside my control make that decision.

As for setting up forwarders/catchalls/autoresponders... This really something I want to be able to do myself (or allow my customers to be able to do). Havingto contact support everytime I want to set something up or change it is inconvenient.

So have I made a mistake choosing the windows hosting option? What else can you not do from within Host Controller? When will version7 come out of Beta and will it offer the same functionality as a linux control panel.

Regards

Paul

Hello Paul,

We have never hosted any of our email domains on windows till now as windows control panel providers support third party email softwares like mailenable which has many limitations while the exim mail server which comes with cpanel is fully designed to serve corporate needs and current maildir method implemented in cpanel makes exim 100% reliable email server.

Other control panels like Plesk, Helm & Ensim use mailenable only and no one uses the inbuilt mail server that comes with windows. If you have a important email domain which should be configured to receive your email emails then that domain should be hosted on one of our cpanel servers.

You wont see any hosting company or ISP running their helpdesk on windows as troubleshooting email problems on windows becomes difficult and Linux is the best option when it comes to reliability.

I know that you will object by including Exchange Servers but question those who use Exchange server and ask them how much they spend in troubleshooting and managing those Exchange Servers.

Hi Mark,

OK, is it possible to change my reseller registration over to a linux based machine. I'm not sure what control panel to select as I don't have any experience of any of them, so if you could suggest the one that is best from a reliability/functionality point of view (and that you will be continuing to use, as I remember reading somewhere on a forum post that there were some that you were considering phasing out).

I know Exchange quite well, but understand that from a license/cost point of view there is no way it could be considered as an option for hosting companies like yourselves. I also remember reading on another post that there was a way that the DNS could be configured for a domain to point to another mail server, so it may be that at some point in the future I register for another windows reseller package, and where it is necessary look at web hosting on the Windows platform, but mail would be handled by my Linux reseller package.

Regards

Paul

Hello Paul,

You seem to have gathered good knowledge so far.

I have setup your account on cpanel server and welcome email has been sent to you. You will need to access WHM to setup accounts for your customers and your customers as well as you will enter into cpanel from http:// 87.117.201.114/cpanel to setup email accounts, addon domains, subdomains, MySQL Server databases, Fantastico, Web Stats and all other features.

You can take a look at some flash tutorials available at http://www.eukhost.com/support/ and within 10 - 30 mins you will have complete knowledge of WHM and cpanel functioning.

Nameserver information was sent in the welcome email so you can point your domain names to those nameservers or register your private nameservers as specified in the welcome email.

Hi Mark,

Thanks for doing that - I'll have a play this evening and let you know how I get on.
