Where does Fantastico store info on installed scripts?

Currently I'm playing around with oscommerce, which I've uninstalled. Now when I try to install it again to the same subdomain I get "You cannot install more than one script in the root directory of a domain".

I've deleted the subdomain, and installed to a new one, but for future reference does anyone know why its doing this?

If you originally installed OSC into the domain root, I'm wondering if it added/modified your .htaccess file which cannot now be deleted (or back-pedalled automatically, to how it used to be)? This would not have happened if you'd have chosen or created a folder for OSC in Fantastico, then uninstalled — it would have deleted the complete folder ...

I've had something similar with this but I got support to fix it. It was to do with uninstalls etc. I'm hoping someone can shed some more light though so I can ort it myself if it happens again in future.

Yes, on reflection I don't think it's quite straightforward — I just took a look at one OSC I have installed (in /public_html/osc/) and there's no .htaccess but I did notice OSC has an /images folder which would become merged with the root /images folder I guess.

I just had a look at another domain on my Dedicated Server that has OSC installed in root and what's different is that in the folder /home/accountname<accountname>/.fantasticodata there is an extra file: installed_in_root.php

Do you have this file still present?

I have installed_in_root.php in the file but I haven't installed anything from fantastico into the root. It's always been in sub domains.

Is there a mention of OSC in the file anywhere?

I don't actually any of the files now as I manually deleted them and removed the domain, but I did alter the htaccess file so maybe that had something to do with it.

What is wierd is that I created the same domain again, and then tried to re-install and it still says the samething. So I'm assuming that Fantistico stores a list of what its installed somewhere. If I can find it then I can probably change it.

It needs to install in a subdirectory (under public_html). It will create the new directory automatically, so make sure that the name you give for the folder isn't already there.

This is one of those developing discussions in which none of us have much of a clue, it seems!

Anyway, the benefit of having loads of different accounts to compare is that I found another with OSC not installed in the root and that too is without the file /.fantasticodata/installed_in_root.php so, jc8654, it just deepens the mystery that you have it too! You can tell which scripts have been installed because there'll be a folder for each in /.fantasticodata, but these will be empty (if uninstalled).

BTW, you asked what my example installed_in_root.php contains — it's just 6 bytes in size and I'll have to show you in a code window:

I didn't quite grasp what you said originally, and thought you meant it was in the subdomain.

Glad to see you got it sorted - Don't forget always install fantastico scripts in a subdirectory to avoid problems!
