Default FTP on the blink?

I've noticed this occur a few times, though it tends to work fine when the support staff check so I'll post the error here in full. Basically the FTP connection isn't listing so to speak...

Error:	Transfer channel can't be opened. Reason: A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
Error:	Could not retrieve directory listing

Apparently the FTP servers are fine from whenever I've enquired so I'm a bit puzzled as to why this has happened a few times, often for a couple hours regardless of where you try logging in.

FTP session times out after idle time of 10 mins. You should use a FTP software like WS FTP Pro as it has auto connect function and you dont need to keep on reconnecting when your session times out.

Ive found good old windows FTP is ood and auto reconnects.

at least twice though ive had problems logging on the l;ogin works find but when you do a directory listing it just comes up with nothing.

I was told it was due to a Firewall issue but I havent tried in a few days.
