installing Fantastico applications

As I'm a beginner in website design, I'm also a beginner in managing the cpanel, so please forgive me for the next very basic question.

Once I've the layout of a page ready, how do I connect it to the application offered in Fantastico?

Let's take an example: I have the link for a Forum on my webpage and I need to make it active with the phpBB found on Fantastico. I can see the option "install", but:

1. what's the correct procedure for installing the application on the server?
2. Is it better to create a directory or let the installer do the job?
3. Then, how do I make the link on the webpage and the application communicate?
4. Do such applications (like forums, guestbooks or surveyors) automatically create their own database, or I have to do it?

Hello Criss,

If you are planning to put links of forum, guestbook and other installations then make sure that you install this applications with directories specified while installing from Fantastico. If you install then on the default location then things will messup and you wont be able to sort those so easily.

When you install forum in a directory then the database is automatically setup by fantastico and most of the things are automatically done by Fantastico. You simply need to put a hyperlink in the webpage which will point to the directory where you installed your forum.

But I guess I still need to have the directories under public_html, right?

Yes. Directories need to be under public_html. There should be nothing below public_html other than backups.
