hi!

I am just about getting there now. It would appear joomla doesn't actually have web pages, which is where i was going wrong, it has 'sections' like 'newsflash that you can make into some kind of content, they are all saved on mysqul database and when you link to them they sort of magically appear. I havn't manged to do anything with them so far as i have been trying to figure out the layout and fiddle with my templete to make it my own.

I am still working on the main presentation bit. your best off getting a template with nice pics in for you to change. I can tell you how to do this if you like (gosh me telling someone else how to do stuff! wonders never cease)

Heres my website, its not much yet, but i further than i was a week ago (still can't make the front page match my domain name url, might have to beg for help when i'm ready)
http:// hotsirens.co.uk/joomla

here are some free templetes
www. themesbase.com/?category=Joomla

here is the tutorils bit, (choose beginers)
www. joomlatutorials.com

OOOOOOOOOOOHHHHH!!!!!!!! wheres the spell checker!!!!!!!!!

So far you have made a good design. I dont see anything that needs to be changed.

I am not sure what your theme is so you will need to clarify that thing to the visitors on your website.

You can choose zencart to setup a shopping to start selling products online. We have another thread in this forum in which some of our customers who are well known webmasters have added their review of different shopping carts.

You can see that thread from Top 10 Shopping carts

I don't think that joomla has got any inbuilt shopping cart but you can integrate zencart with it. You will need to setup a paypal account and a $50 account with 2checkout to accept online credit card payments. 2checkout.com is very cheap and thats my favorite credit card processor. You have to go through this final hindrances as there's no other way to start selling good online. Selling in market yard with a stall would be too difficult and this initial pain wont be as difficult as offline selling.

Cheakysneaky,

Exelent site! I'm impressed. It would be nice if you lived in the west yorkshire area cos I have a large Photographic studio and offer product photography. check it out at www. directdigitalimage.com

I'm using photoshop and dreamweaver to design my website but I'm checking out the templates now.

Keep me updated on your progress

Default installing template

Hi

I installed a template from joomla and it worked. I want to try a diferent template but in joomla admin / global config. I do the file permissions and save but it comes up an error saying the config file is unwritable. Any suggestions?

I have posted this in joomla forum too but thought i would share this with this forum in case anyone else gets this problem.

You will need to change the permission of the config file from file manager. It should be 777 as thats what Joomla wants it to be. Once you make it 777 from file manager then joomla installation will be able to write to it.

I have been changing it to 777 via global gonfig and gong to the server tab. this is how it was done in a visual tutorial at www. joomlatutorials.com

But it comes back with "An Error Has Occurred! Unable to open config file to write! "

Is there another way of changing it to 777?

Probablly you are changing permission of wrong config file. Open a ticket for our support team to look into this. They will get this sorted for you.

If you guide me through the procedure you are following then I can help you with the permission problem.

ok heres the procedure.....

I have downloaded some templates. I go to global config and click on the server tab.
Now according to this visual tutorial at (www. joomlatutorials.com/external/visual-tutorials.html)
according to this i have to tick a few boxes to make "cmhod" to 777. (wotever that means)

I have done as the tutorial says and it worked when I installed my first template, now it comes up with the error as stated.

Joomla templates need 777 permission as Joomla needs write permission on them to update those templates.

Error that you are getting is due to our security settings so you will need to open a ticket and get some other option setup for your Joomla templates.

yeah i get that exactly that with a few templates, i found out the reason tho, if you open the zip file the template comes in, and i found that if the template files are not in the first folder, it won't work. For instance my template had the folder - finalfantasy - finalfantasy (again) - then the template files.
so i took all the template files and shoved them into the the first folder leaving - finalfanasy - template files. I then took the unzipped template (minus the extra folder) and plonked them in the templates folder through my ftp program. It then worked. I did this with several templates that wouldn't work properly and found that it sorted out the problem.

Thnx I wil look into that. Just reset my OS so busy installing drivers etc! I sent a ticket to eukhost and they said they have changed some security settings on their server and that why its happened. I know it will be something or nothing so will just stick at it!
