Logging into cPanel
I recently came across a post that said you can log into your cPanel securly by going to the address "https://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel".
This might be a stupid question, but does that mean it is a security risk to log in via "http://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel"?
Also, which way do you log in? - do you recommend the https or http root or either.
Thank you in advance for your responses

Hello David,
You can certainly login both /cpanel and :2082 however this is not the secure way of logging into cPanel. To login to cPanel securely please end the URL with :2083.
Cheers,
Ben Stones.

I'm glad I know this now, I never realised that before.
I have got another question from this though? When I log in securly to cPanel I get warning after warning that the "Security Certificate is not valid" and that it might be attempting to "fool" me. And another error I get is the "site in the security certificate does not match this site". Is this normal or am I doing something wrong?
And also does logging in via "https://www.yourdomain.com/cpanel" produce the same effect as adding :2083 to the end?
Thank you in advance for your response(es)

it should be https://IP:2083 as that will throw less messages related to SSL. There's nothing to get concerned with those messages as the access will be secure and encrypted even if the certificate is self signed.

The security errors are, as eukhost.com pointed out, shown because you are attempting to login via your domain name rather than the server's IP address, which is most likely to what the SSL certificate is registered.
To answer one of your original questions, logging into the standard cPanel rather than the secured cPanel is a security risk, but incredibly minor. However, I would still suggest logging into the secure panel, simply because it is that bit safer.

Cheers for the reply hairyfreak! I understand about the server IP / domain name certerficate error issue now.
And thanks for answering one of my original questions! I am using the secure cPanel now. Is it just my imagination or do things go slower when using the secure cPanel? Or is the server just especially busy today?
Thank you in advance for you replies

I dont see any problem with cpanel service as the control panel is loading quite fast on my end. I am accessing the server from https://87.117.200.71:2087/ and https://87.117.200.71:2083/
let me know if you are doing the same.

Yes I was doing the same. Things seem to be going just as fast as they used to now. God knows what the problem was!
Anyway, thank you for the response. Very much appreciated!
