mailing lists choices

I would like to set up a list of checkboxes in one of my pages, so that users can choose which mailing lists they want to subscribe to.

Then I see the option of creating MAILING LIST in the "email account" set up, and the option of a PHPLIST included in "Fantastico". I seem to understand that the first is of an ANNOUNCEMENT kind, whereas the latter is of a DISCUSSION GROUP kind, right?

Well, is it then possible to integrate both applications in my website, or they will conflict?
If this is the case, which application is better then?

They serve quite different purposes I suggest ...

The Mailman mailing list is primarily suited to interactive discussions in similar form to Yahoo Groups where each subscriber can send messages to the list, as well as receive from other subscribers just by sending to the list email address, whereas, PHPList is a one-way device, informing your subscribers by way of bulletins or newsletters compiled by you (with no direct means to reply to every other subscriber).

There will be no conflict between the two 'apps' — does that help?
