Question PhpBB3

Will Euk be offering PhpBB3 has an update to PhpBB2 on Fantastico Deluxe through cpanel? v2 seems a little dated now that v3 is out and I for one would like to get my v2 upto v3 and would show that that Euk are moving with the times.

I've had my ups & downs here but have to say that I've never had problems while using Fantastico Deluxe and seems to be one of the better programs available.

If Euk are not going to be catering for this new Version now, how long are we likely to be waiting before you decide to bring it up to speed?

Awaiting with anticipation!

The version of all the applications provided by Fantastico are not updated manually. There is an automated script which pickups the available data from the provider.

It will get updated as soon as it is avaible with Fantastico.

I think you'll find it's not up to eUKhost when these apps get updated — Netenberg and cPanel are ultimately responsible for implementing newer versions of Fantastico-controlled scripts.

Why don't you try to install phpBB3 yourself, after backing up your existing installation then follow the update guidelines?

It seems I doubled with Martin but he beat me to it ...

I was on the case as well but I was just checking whether I had the most up to date version of Fantastico to check.

Thanks for the fast response and clearing that up for me.

How often do you update to the latest versions of Fantastico Deluxe and what version is currently being used with cpanel?

According to netenberg.com forums they're on Fantastico De Luxe 2.10.4 r12.

Just in case anyone was wondering......... I found this on netenberg.com forums from Adminstrator Aric.

"Hi,

We're sure that you're excited to use phpBB 3. We don't blame you, it's been forever since a major update to that software. However, experience has shown us that major new releases often have serious flaws that can cause major problems for those who choose to update without investigating things first. We say this in general and aren't picking on phpBB (though they've had a lot of issues in the past). We will add phpBB 3, but likely we'll wait a bit to see if there are any quick point releases or security flaws patched before upgrading.

Of course there's no reason you can't install phpBB 3 on your own if you need it right now. The installation process is easier than phpBB 2 was.

Regards,

Aric"

Sounds promising!

Just to confirm, that's what my server is running, so I imagine are most other eUKhost Linux servers with automatic updates enabled.

Fantastico updates run every time with the cPanel updates. And cPanel updates are scheduled to run every night.

Thanks for the update. Sets my mind at rest that if they bring out an update with v3 we'll get it ASAP.

Hi all,
As a bit of an idiot when it comes to that sort of thing etc, I have installed phpBB3 on one of my domains and it could'nt have been easier.
I had a small problem which was quickly sorted in this forum.
My advice is download a copy from the phpBB site and give it a go for yourself, there are plenty here who will help if you have any hassle.
If I'm honest [as someone who is used to phpBB2] I find the new permissions system of phpBB3 completely baffling and harder to work out than the actual install !
Go on, give it a go, what have you got to lose ?!
Good luck,
Jon

PS. If you want to have a go at the admin of version 3 PM me and I'll let you have a play on my phpBB3 site which is only for test purposes so does'nt matter what you do to it.

Hi,
How do you find PhpBB3 over PhpBB2?

Also Have you tried an upgrade from 2 -> 3? including posts

I assume this would be ok? As I'd like to upgrade my forums also.

Default Comparison

Hi Site,
You've obviously seen a phpBB3 site and know the cosmetic differences ?
Behind the scenes there has been a change in the code to make it more secure but as a user the other changes are too many to mention.
Some to note though are Mods accounts - They have their own control panel which you as admin can give whatever powers you see fit.
You also have the new Permissions which believe me take some working out !
Finally the whole of the admin panel is set out in tabs like IE7 or Firefox with the tabs at the top.
You need to have a look at a phpBB3 site behind the cover to make your own mind up.
There are various Portals available in Beta [Test] which appear to work.
One I have tried is phpBB3 Portal
If you want to see this up and running PM me and I'll give you admin access, can't say fairer than that !
That's your lot,
Jon
