Default phpMyAdmin

Hi all,
I would like to know if it is either safe or possible to use the phpmyadmin tool in the CP for learning and other tutorial purposes ?
I really want to learn how to use mysql etc, and wonder is it ok to set up a 'Test' account or similar without it having any impact on my other accounts.
Many thanks !
Jon

Hello Jon,

You can check phpMyAdmin tutorials at :- cpanel_xv2_phpmyadmin

You will find detailed information on setting up MySQl databases.

Hi Jon,

We would not recommend setting up a test account along with your existing accounts due to security reasons and also because of limitations involved with shared hosting. If you are really keen on learning MySQL, you can refer to demos at MySQL :: MySQL Enterprise Demos besides the phpMyAdmin tutorials link provided by Jack.

Just another option... there are a couple of free WAMP packages now which are very easy to install and use on your local computer, and they'd come with mySQL and phpmyAdmin included.

AppServ 2.x.xx found at appservnetwork.com is one of my FAV ones

It takes less than a minute to install & includes:
  • Apache 2.2.8
  • PHP 5.2.6
  • MySQL 5.0.51b
  • phpMyAdmin-2.10.3
Good luck..

Default SQLite found

Hi all,
Thanks to all of you for your suggestions and I have taken heed of the warning about using my CP phpMyAdmin to learn with.
I've had a look around and finally managed to find "SQLite Manager", an addon with Firefox which will hopefully do for the moment.
All I want is to learn the format and layout and what the various tabs do, learn how a database is constructed etc, not actually run any scripts or alter things.
I took a look at WAMP but it's completely over my head at the moment, I'll download it however and see if I can get to grips with it in someway, someday.
Meanwhile thanks to all of you again !
Jon
