How much does this differ from cPanel and is it worth it? I know a mate who has a car forum (runs VB on it) and says its amazing, but from what I am reading up its pretty confusing to get used to.
cPanel happens to be the most popular control panel, it truly does a lot for you. Although it really depends on what you are used to. However, for newbies cPanel is highly recommended. Plesk certainly requires a little more know-how.
The major difference between the two control panels is the user interface - both of the feature sets are pretty much comparable, and both are reasonably fast, secure, and reliable. So the choice between the two is basically a matter of personal preference.
Then its all about personal preference? I have never seen the inside of Plesk close up (only with screen shots) but if the navigation is pretty simple I would think anyone would be willing to give it a shot.
My vote for cPanel
easy to use GUI, excellent features, loads fast, requires very less server resources, have a great addon Fantastico ( script installer ) and many more etc... hence its widely used and is favorite web hosting control panel.
Even I haven't used Plesk. I have seen the tutorial and its screen shots though. I am used to cPanel and I can say that it is the best control panel to manage your websites, domains and much more. Managing website, blog or a forum is really easier through cPanel.
I think it might be since I cant see it and play around with it that I am so hesitant. I am almost certain I could test/fail a couple of times before I got the hang of it, or RT*M so I have no issues other than sheer random worry. I think this weekend I am going to poke around and see if I can get a demo going or something. It still surprises me that more do not use it though, I guess cPanel is the popular one after all.
