Default Word Press update please ?

Hi all,
I've decided that I'm going to give Word Press a trial as suggested in one of my previous posts.
However, the CP version is out of date, would it be possible to update it please ?
Or even better, tell me how to do it and then that's something else I've learnt.
Many thanks,
Jon

Hi Montejon:

Good Morning,

It is better to download the latest version from the WordPress site and then use FTP to upload it on your site.

Please download the latest WP version from the WP site, unzip it in a local folder on the PC, do the necessary changes like the connection parameter to the database (you'll need a database initially on the site with full user permissions - this part you can achieve easily through the CPanel database utility, and it will also tell you what parameters are required to connect to the database), do these changes, then upload the entire folder (new version of WP) to your site at the proper destination (folder). Every step is either mentioned on the WP site, or you can easily Google it. Follow those steps. They are very easy to implement. Important: Please backup your site before doing the update, especially if you're new to such technical procedures.

This can be done easily every time WP comes up with a new version, without depending on the CPanel version.

Believe me, it is much easier done than said!

Enjoy the day!

Hi sb123,
Thanks for your reply and the info, I've managed to find some update directions that even I can follow ! [it says here . . .]
Just one thing that always confuses me, should I download the .Zip or .Tar,gz version ?!
[I see this so many times It's about time I learnt the difference]
Thanks,
Jon

Presuming you will be downloading either of these files to a local Windows PC to decompress before uploading them to the server by FTP, what software do you have for unarchiving and will it handle both file formats?

Hi all,
Looks like I spoke too soon !
I've read through the instructions and there are so many files that need attention that it's way beyond my present experience.
It would appear WP offer a service whereby one of their team will install on your behalf so I'm going to have to take that route.
I'm usually willing to attempt anything but this well . . .
Thanks anyway,
Jon

Sometimes it takes up to 6 months to be listed on there.

Hi natureday,
That's what I'd heard as well but it was all done and dusted within 12 hours of me sending off my request to them !
That's the sort of service I've only come to expect from eUKHost !
Regards,
Jon
