Dial-Up Users say No to Broadband
As per a recent survey by Pew Internet & American Life research most of the dial-up Internet users (62%) say they don't want to upgrade their connection to broadband; CNN reports; http://www. cnn.com/2008/TECH/ptech/07/02/broadband.study.ap/index.html

Strange. I don't think I could make it through a week without broadband
After awhile you get stuck in your ways. If these people have had dialup for 10 years or so, they may just of passed the broadband age.

I don't think you realise the benefits of broadband until you get it. And a lot of people wouldn't really benefit from broadband as their PCs are soooooo slow.

You also have to remember how much of a bad reputation DSL has in rural America. I would rather have dial up than DSL sometimes. I have a third world (AKA Rulal DSL) and have to call support at least twice a week. Have (had) a log on my old computer with 200 connection issues in two months. Id rather Dial Up sometimes, alot less issues.

I guess it could be due to the less usage of internet in rural area however I look it as good prospects on urban counterparts in broadband adoption in rural area if any company come forward with a good package, people won't mind using it, especially if they start offering good service in very very affordable price.

People still use dial up? lol .
It is a bit silly, especially as now broadband seems to be cheaper in most places than dialup. I'm failing to see the disadvantage!
I know that the more I move forward speed wise the more I couldn't go back. I shudder to think how much of my life was wasted waiting for a dial up connection to load a page - I can't believe I used one for years but now I've got broadband I could never go back. Same when I put my package up from 2MB to 8MB - I can't imagine being back on 2MB now.

I remember I use to be on dial-up with AOL. I guess as you are more experienced on the Internet you expect a fast speed anyway. I currently get 1Mb broadband as that's the maximum speed my line can support (and probably the same for my street) - I'm with BT now.
If I could get as much as 8Mb download speeds or something more than what I've got now, yes I'd not want to move back. I downloaded a Linux operating system the other day and it took 1 hour and a half to download - that is where I find out the disadvantages of 1Mb broadband :P.

Wow, don't think I could survive on that!!! Why didnt you just get mobile broadband? I get 8mb on my mobile broadband which is a full 8x faster than your fixed line.
At home I'm on 50mb - just about to upgrade us to 100mb shortly

My street isn't a cable area, therefore I have to stick to 1Mb speeds. Now I'm thinking about it, 1Mb really is slow lol...

Ill believe it when it happens. Currently a 2MB connections is like $250pm. My 256k is $40pm. It is a COOP so technically they have to listen to the customers/owners like me who have complained for about 5 years because of overpriced interweb.

That's a lot! Are they the average pricing of broadband in your area? Maybe they don't have a lot of Customers?

They are the only broadband provider in my area. We are *lucky* because there are still plenty of places who only have access to Satellite Interweb.

Yah. Internet capital, maybe! You have to remember the movies man, where people drive through the desert for miles then all of a sudden there is a town, well they are true and quite common! Thats where I live!
