Earthquake!
Anyone else have fun with the earthquake last night! Being 5 floors up was certainly interesting!

Yes, 11 floors up in the tower block was scary. Was very surreal, didn't know what it was at first but thought a bomb had gone off and the block was falling down.
BBC news just said to expect many aftershocks but I've not felt anything so far. The table, tv and computer started moving and the doors were slamming!

As everyone will tell you, I'm a very light sleeper! Although, lastnight, that changed. Didn't feel/hear a thing and slept right through it.

My friend thought it was one of her friends coming back into their house! I found that pretty funny, just the image of her friend as an earthquake!

Didn't feel a thing - there again, I don't think it reached Wales.

I felt it real bad here in the E Midlands
The whole house was shaking like jelly, and ther was constant loud rumble noise for 8 or so seconds.
I thought a car had crashed into the house

Earthquakes in England ? Holy crap. Cant be too far away for Ireland to get em too. And here I was thinking I made a mistake moving from the serenity (sp) of Ireland to the Killer Bee, Drought and Tornado Alley New Mexico. I feel safe now

One of the experts on the BBC said aftershocks may be felt anytime in between now and the next 24 hours. There was already one at 04:00 GMT which was 1.8 on the Richter scale.

Well, I'm kinda disappointed. The chances of witnessing an earthquake in the UK are very low and I slept through the biggest in 25 years. Usually I would wake up if a dog barked or a cat screamed. House shaking? nope, slept right through it.

A load of people I know didn't think anything of it.I'm not sure how but yes! I think it's better it happened then.... I know some chimneys came down, one onto one of my friends neighbours car. If it had happened as all the family were just coming in... It's not something I want to think about.

I felt the 4am aftershock although it was only like a rumble of thunder.
But the first one sure did frighten the daylights out of me !!!!!!!!
I was just climbing into bed when the telly on the wall started shaking....The wardrobe doors flew open......And everything fell off the windowsill !!!!!!!!
I did the honourable thing of sending the other half outside to see what was going on while I sat under the table with the dog !!!!!!!!!!
The other half got her own back later when she mentioned to EVERYONE that it was the first time she had felt the earth move in our bed !!!!!!
So glad we do not have that many of them

Yes - I was thinking the same thing :P Although it's relatively big for the UK, 5.3 is still rather small.

Rather small?!?!?!?
Description from the Richter Magnitude Scale for an earthquake this size:
"Can be destructive in areas up to about 100 miles across in populated areas."
