The Floods in UK
Has anyone been effected badly by the floods? I'm trapped in my village as all ways in and out are flooded - joy . But my house isn't flooded...

I was down the end of the village this morning watching people being airlifted out of flooded buildings. Quite amazing really.
Go watch BBC News 24 online - the reportings on the floods are being based in Stratford (5 miles from me) - it will give you an idea of how bad it is for me.

Just thought I'd add a photo:
http://static.bluque.com/external/DSCN0527.JPG
That gives you just a little idea of how bad it is. That expanse of water chose for around another 200-300 yards over the river and through a caravan park.

I'm gonna upload some more photos and ill post the links here. I've just been to the other side of that expanse of water and there are 2 cars there, one completely submerged the other not so bad. One of the cars is a Porsche 4x4! And it's completely wrecked. The water is so powerful it's managed to rip a gate apart and there are mobile homes which have ben knocked off their stilts. From what I've heard the water rose up 5ft in a pub by the river!
Note: The Porsche 4x4 is worth £60k

The waters have gone down here now, although they've left behind a horrible smell and alot of damage. I, along with many other people accross South Wales and the South Midlands are at risk of loosing our power supply. If the water gets into the power station involved, it will take 5 days at least to restore power to it, they are saying North Gloucestershire only at the moment, but I'm only a few miles away from the border, and 15 miles away from the power plant involved so I may be buggered electrics wise.

I think its gonna be the norm. How can you declare an emergency for the heat? Buy an air conditioner. We have weather thats weird too. Drought though. Went 8 months last year without a drop of rain hittig the ground. Our rain levels are above normal now, but would still be considered drought for UK / Ireland and ost of europe.

Its bad, and I really feel for the folks affected down there in England.
Having said that, you folks should be aware that despite our best efforts in the flooding situation in the South of Engerlund, firefighters nationwide have recently had a pay cut of around £1000.
Our LSI ( Long Service Increment ) has been removed, which used to mean any firefighter with over 15 years service was awarded £990.
It was supposed to be replaced by something called CPD, before LSI was removed, but as usual, the Gonernment humped us and did not do that.
I'm now looking at a serious pay cut, over the last 3 years, doing the maths, firefighters have been awarded an annual pay increase of £3 collectively.
That just stinks to me, to be honest.
Yes, we will bail you out if your village or town is flooded, but we are doing it under emotional and management blackmail, because we are human beings and care about our community.
I wonder how many of the firefighters you see on Sky TV in those news bulletins should actually be, legally, where they are wading around in water?.
What water rescue qualifications do most of them have?. I tell you now.......NONE....!!!!.
Another aspect of CPD which we aint getting any recompense for, similar to USAR.
It makes my ****** blood boil to be quite honest.

Thats not just with you. Many government departments are going through similar pay cut in UK as well as USA. Floods have nothing to do with this pay cut. Recent war in Afghanistan as well as Iraq is the responsible factor for this economical problems for both countries.
You need to cheer yourself in this situation as everything will be back to normal within a year.
