Laptop or computer?
For me, a laptop would be my favourite because you can go in the garden with the laptop whereas with a computer you can't. I am soon to be getting a laptop with a wireless internet connection so I can surf the net in my bedroom, garden - anywhere in the house. But I am specifically getting this laptop to do school work as well. I hope I get good specs with the laptop - but I am going to try and not get Windows Vista pre-installed but most new laptops nowadays have Windows Vista installed.

Computer everytime. I got a laptop and it was the a big mistake! - It was great for uni - which was the reason I got it so I suppose it wasnt that bad.
But for games and speed in general as well as graphics and updateability they are crap lol
And good luck to finding one without Vista - I don't think it is possible in this country!!

Of course I would rather have both too!

Well, I've been on laptops for about 3 years now but that's because I've been going around all over the place. Problem with them is if something goes wrong, it's a pain to get it fixed. I've killed a hard drive, dvd drive (I ran linux when the hard drive died), needed new RAM but I still stand by laptops as that was all covered under warrenty.
It does all depends on what you want and what you want to pay I guess. Both have their advantages in different situations.

Yes, disadvantage of laptops = games are rubbish (like C&C3!! - which I love and am never off!)

You would have to get some non glary screen for the garden, sun would bounce nicely off the screen so you can't see anything I have a laptop and use it as a desktop lol, i.e. it sits on my desk and i dont take it anywhere . ... unless needed.
New desktop on its way though...when i have a key factor (money)

Both for me.
I have my laptop so I can go wireless anywhere in the house - although the battery is wearing out, and it's only 2 years old, time for a new 1...
And I have my PC to fix all the crap I have up to, like external hard drive and external dvd-rw drive, and then the wired lan connection...

Yes, the battery on my old laptop started going really rubbish after around 3 years - If I unplugged it from the mains the laptop would die and shutdown - even though it was fully charged.
I think one the main reasons they are so temperamental is because they are transported around a lot - or at least it was in my case - it was back and forth to Uni 5 days a week and to work at the weekend and back as well as travelling all over my house!

My dads laptop broke for some reason and we hadn't downloaded anything onto the laptop, etc. so anyway he had to re-install everything on the laptop. He did buy his laptop some time back so it did cost a few grand for his laptop but today laptops are getting cheaper in shops like PC world, etc.

Yes your right, they are definitely getting cheaper. Mine was nealy £1000 when I got it and the same laptop is now £450 - so there has been a big decrease in price - especially over the most recent years.
Laptops are funny things and need regular maintenance unfortunately (normally a lot more than your standard desktop computer).

I've been using both a Desktop as well as a Laptop but I'm more inclined towards my desktop mainly because of easy upgrades and gaming. If you want mobility and don't play games, then a laptop is the way to go.

Not to brag or anything, but.......
You can't say laptops are crap for games, the one I'm using at the minute runs Half-life 2 smoothly, FLight Sim X with the setting up quite high, and runs two eve-online clients with out breaking into a sweat.
I suppose the 2gb ram, and 256mb radeon 9800 probably have a lot to do with it. Only thing that lets it down is the small 30gb HD, but for £700 I ain't complaining.
The laptop is just so damned handy for work. I can go where ever and I've got it with me, and can work from home without any hassle.
But for gaming you won't beat a desktop purely because of the upgrade options, which are nearly zero on a laptop.
And you can always get artistic with a desktop

Like DPS said, I also prefer PCs because of the easy upgrades. I don't favour laptops in this case as you have to more or less abbliterate the thing to get to the area you want (well that's the case of mine). I'm not really bovered gaming wise, because I don't play any games.

If they just made laptops upgradeable a lot of problems with them would be overcome and would help them to become more preferable over desktops.
The reason I say laptops are generally bad for gaming is because normally unless you pay a lot extra (and specially request it) you get a bog standard on board graphics card which can barely run Vista smoothly - let alone a game!
arclight - where did you get your laptop from? - I want one! - never seen an offer that good anywhere (or in any of the shops I have ever been in). I could live with the lower hard drive space - I have plently of external storage and could easily install / uninstall games as required.
