Default Local Elections

Looks like bad news for Labour. -257 councilors at the moment and down 9 councils.

Although, local elections are hardly an indication of how the general election will turn out, it does look quite bad for Labour. Has Labour suffered for it's 10p tax "mistake" ?

I think labour have gone wrong everywhere to be honest

Especially where they have lost millions of records of Children on a CD!!

There is no way labour will get through during the national elections.

Well I'm sure you've not all minded this Labour government which has reduced your income tax from 22% to 20% in the last budget!!!!

Maybe you would like to elect the Conservatives (who don't forget favour the upper rather than lower classes) and maybe they'll be kinder than to try and implement their upper rate tax cut from 40% to 38% and not increase the lower rate tax to 25% :P.

Theres nothing wrong with Labour - its Gordon Brown. We need a new leader - Tony Blair come back all is forgiven. Very strange how for 10 years, even when theres been war protests and disagreement with him on some issues by the public he has always remained compartively popular compared to the other parties.

I hope you read that article about Tony Blair few days back. He had no cash while traveling in Train and he was caught without ticket. Though one cannot justify traveling without ticket, but this proves how honest he has been and he didn't think of making money when he was leading UK.

I agree. But how many "honest" people have bunked a train to get home after a rough night and waking up with no money? Or when the car breaks down and they've got to be at work in 30 mins before they get sacked? .

And for me, as long as he would do well in office, I would allow him to bunk the odd train now and then .

I think you may well find that the Labour party is more conservative than the Conservative party! Look at the traditional party values!

And at least Gordon Brown hasn't lied like Blair did!

Just to remind anyone whose memory is short or who are too young to remember the conservative years:

YouTube - UK Labour Party - Remember? 2005

The leadership might have changed but the party is the same. The key facts from this video are: (for the benefit of the people who can't watch it)

80's TUC protests - "Britain can't work without jobs" - One of the highest times of unemployment in the history of the country.

Poll Tax introduction - finally scrapped in favour of the Council Tax system after major backlash against how unfair the Poll Tax was, but not before it did damage to the economy and Britains people - too little too late in the minds of voters. Caused massive backlash, public protests and unprecendentated violence against government property and the law enforcement agencies.

Unemployment increases by an addition 1,000,000 people in a comparitively short space of time due to poor Conservative policies and decision making under Employment Secretary Micheal Howard.

Black Wednesday cost the British economy £3.3 billion while under Conservative leadership.

Interest rates hit an all time high of 15%.

A quarter of a million (250,000) British families lost their homes.

1.5 million British homes suffered negative equity.

Police numbers slashed by over a thousand as fear of crime increased.

Opposed independence for the Bank of England to retain ultimate control over it.

Opposed the minimum wage - labelled it "extreme" and "dangerous" - the same minimum wage which now protects the rights of workers and stops slave labour and the same minimum wage many of you will no doubt have depended on, depend on or will depend on in the future.

Reduced spending for Hospitals and the NHS

Cut funding for Education and Schools

Opposed tax credits for families on low incomes who now depend on them not to struggle - while trying to implement tax cuts for the rich.

Is this the kind of government that you want running the country? (and half of these points were what Micheal Howard managed to do all by himself - imagine what a whole cabinet of them could do!).

I just think some memories are very short, or some people forget the past a little too easily.
