Is lol overused?
Have you ever had a conversation on MSN and discovered that every other word is lol? Or that when you have nothing to say in response you feel obliged to put an obligatory "lol" in place so that the other person still knows your there.
Me and a few friends were having a conversation about it yesterday and were wondering whether "lol" should be banned or restricted in the amount of times it could be used in conversation.
What is everyones view on this? And of course, there is only one proper way to end this post - lol

Yes, I use lol too much, it's kind of addictive isn't it? Like if someone said to me 'Hmm, my PHP game works now' - out of no where I'd say 'lol' - I probably say lol at least 5 times per minute or so in a conversation sometimes . Lol, I was about to make a discussion about this somewhere as well ha lol... oh god!

lol. there won't be any fun left in chats if you ban lol. I use lol even while talking to someone.

Have you ever "lol'ed" at an inappropriate time? - such as "My cat has just died" "lol" .

Are you a student DPS ? Because taht sounds very much like a conversation students have. Kind of like the discussion we had at the pub for hours about "where does time go"

So this brings us on to another topic - "How do you know what lol the other person intended?".

That's easy.
Nobody ever means "laugh out loud" nowadays. How often do you literally do that when you type it? lol

I don't think anyone who uses "lol" is necessarily laughing on the other side. Most of them just have a difficult time coming up with anything good to say, so they put the first thing that pops in their head - lol
