phpBB 3.0 Release Candidate 4
Official Release Topic: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewt...a069b3d6b92312
Again, phpBB has released another release candidate stage and I can't wait for the final release of phpBB 3.0. I hope phpBB 3.0 will become gold during the summer holidays. phpBB has dramatically changed since 2.x versions and will get more and more people using phpBB rather than vBulletin, hopefully.

I heard there are huge load of improvements in this version, let us hope from this release we are going to get rid of any spam that hopefully will be easier to track down and remove.

I've gone off phpBB slightly since seeing how good vBulletin is but I am willing to be turned back round to phpBB if it has come a long way from the previous version and got some of the nice features that vBulletin has .

phpBB has improved dramatically, I recommend creating a password-protected directory, install phpBB 3 RC4 and see how cool phpBB is!

Well, but I think it is better to wait for the full release as this is a release candidate.

Yes, I think the full release will be a better bet to go for and test. I will wait so that all the bugs and problems are ironed out otherwise I might get frustrated with it and instantly go off it which wouldn't be good .

Yeh. Well I was ticked off at every board id used because of spam etc. But since I started throwing the forum in obscure locations and only using javascript links, everything has been A1

Yes, Spam has been awful for me in the past as well. Come what may every forum I have ever had has been spammed sooner or later. One forum that I set up for a business was getting in excess of 1000 spam posts a day and it was just getting far too much to even moderate so the forum ended up shutting down so good spam prevention would be something that would endear phpBB3 to me and would definitely make me consider a switch .

There are spam prevention methods. Always enable e-mail verification and install the many MODs available from phpBB.com, phpBB3 is really nice so there's no reason why not to test it out. And its perfectly fine to test the RC version of phpBB3 as long as its not in a live enviornment.

Its not that I don't want to test the RC or that I think its unsafe - I just want to test the proper release when it is out so I know I am looking at the final product and I could take it straight into a live environment if I wanted to.
I have got to admit I just used the standard installs and didn't use any mods so that might have put me at a slight disadvantage but most of the time I did have email verification on - I can't think of a time when I didnt but stupidly one time I did allow guest access!! .
