Quit Using Text Books
Ron Hammond, Phd, professor at Utah Valley State College says Quit Using Text Books " Instead of textbooks, Hammond has been assigning journal articles and other reading materials that his students can check out from the library or download from the internet, a practice which, if every one of their professors did it, would save students (on average) $900 a year".
Not a bad idea!

Hey Paul,
That's really a good suggestion by Ron Hammond indeed! Avoiding text books and using the internet and journals from library would not only save students money, but also help them to have a broader view about their topics in concern and a better knowledgebase about the same, isn't it?

Yeah, also the text books costs a lot, I too think it will really help them to utilize that save cost for buying other stuffs that they usually could not afford for.

I would like to save the money but sometimes I like reading - also if I have to read page after page on a computer I sometimes lose my place and after a while it starts hurting my eyes. Also when I am tired I can't concentrate on the computer screen (and by health and safety you arn't supposed to look at it anyway!) and sometimes I like to snuggle up in bed and do a bit of reading before sleep time!!

I think you've forget to mention one of the advantage of Text books that it has resell value as well.

Yes paul, a good point you put in. Coz reselling gives you some money for your used books, out of which you can purchase other books in return and then resell those again to get more books out of that money and so on...
Moreover, these reselled books are mostly purchased by students who are short of money (as per my knowledge is concerned), so you are helping such needy students in some or the other way too. A good Karma again, for which you shall be paid by the Almighty someday (A bit of religious stuff here)

That is a fantastic point!!!
eBay is a wonderful place for this reselling - or down at the students union! On eBay you'll always find someone who will want any book on any topic even if it is obscure!
I need some extra money at the moment so maybe I'll start selling my books .
