Sleep is just a bad habit
Richard Buckminster Fuller inventor of Dymaxion system of sleeping says "Two hours of sleep a day, is plenty", he adds a man should be able to cut his rest periods shorter by relaxing as soon as he has used up his primary energy. I too need 7-8 hours but I think I should minimize it to 4 to 5 hours gradually otherwise I will start napping at my work place the whole day.

I read something a while back that suggested that sleep consists of a series of cycles - each cycle may last between 35-50 minutes depending on the individual. During this period you have shallow/falling sleep, deep sleep and waking sleep. If you wake up at the end of such a cycle you feel refreshed and ready for the day - if you wake up within a cycle - irrespective of how many hours sleep you have had, then you feel groggy and tired. The trick is to experiment with your sleeping patterns to establish how long your cycle is, then ensure that your sleep is a multiple of that time - an afternoon power-nap of 40 mins could be as good as a whole nights sleep if your feeling tired. So, this theory - that did impress me when I read it (but I do find it difficult to experiment with my sleep when I'm so busy doing other things - I'll have to wait for a holiday or something) - does support to some extent the claim that 2 hours sleep might be enough. Science still hasn't found a good enough reason why the body requires sleep in the first place so I wouldn't discount any theories just yet.

I like my sleep - but think of how much more I could do if I only needed 2 hours sleep and I still felt good!! That would be excellent. Some brainbox scientist needs to work out how to do this sometime soon .

The number of hours a person sleeps a day varies depending upon his/her priorities in life. I guess the number of hours of sleep a day reduces gradually as a person grows older.

What Richard mentioned there he take half hour's nap at the interval of every six hours ( as soon as he has used up his primary energy) and after a half-hour's nap he was completely refreshed that means in 24 hours he takes 4 naps that comes to two hours, but he has not mentioned whether he is taking those naps sleeping on bed or sitting and how he manage to changes position to give rest to his body during short nap. It seems practically difficult to me.

30 mins of sleep!?!? - it normally takes me 10 to get to sleep and 5 to get up so does that mean I need to have 45 minute naps or is this time built into the 30 mins lol .

Can anyone recommend how to stop myself from doing things like re-installing windows after 12am when I have to be up at 7am? I need a lock on my pc that shuts it down at midnight!
My pc is responsible for my lack of sleep, I blame Bill Gates!

You need to drink something few minutes before 00:00 hours. That will take care of everything else

If only I could do that this week! I'm on a summer school looking after 16-17 year olds and as such, alcohol is banned both for them and the staff.
