Spammers
Hello,
You don't understand the hatred i have for such people lol its a group of people that disgust our world with filth & steal from people, the laws should be tougher.
I certaintly have no problems passing information onto authorities of spammers and would love to see alot more convictions.
Bring back the old skool medieval stretch devices and make these people pay!

Im sensing someone just sat and sorted through his morning email
I have to agree, but I do use gmail to field most of my traffic and it does do a very good job. Never seen any legitimate email being stopped by it and it fields around 1000 a day into my spam box -- which I every now and then pop on and "delete all"
What concerns me more -- is people stupidity when it comes to email
"it says its from my bank, they must want me username, password and pin cause they forgot it" Sadly I work in an office where this is common.

AVG is very good - especially at detecting viruses with attachments - 100% success rate for me . Used in conjunction with SpamAssassin I've found it extremely effective with only a few bits of spam getting through. Like you Robert, I am worried about missing an important genuine e-mail due to it being filtered so I have also set the settings to be reasonably modest.

Spammers won't stop as they get superb response to their spams. One of our staff member came to me with some of his relatives from a Village area and they asked me to look at some documents. I started reading one of those documents and stopped when i came across " £650 Million" lol lol lol
They were upset with me as I continued to laugh at that document. My next question to them was "did you communicate with these people?" and their answer was "Yes, we've sent our passport, driving license & bank account documents to them".
It was mentioned in that email(printed) that their relative expired in UK and they were asked to send documents to an address in Nigeria. These people sent all their documents to the Nigerian address and wanted me to help them get " £650 Million" which was left by their relative.

OMG they must be in the same place as my dead nigerian relative and they won the same amount of money lol.
A real life example - albeit clever:
The company I work for has a website with our Vat number on -- a spammer used that and sent in an email possing as the inland revenue. Which was expected communication coming up to audit time.
It had the inland revenue images, layout seems normal and a buttons to login.
So you click the buttons -- appears to take you to the right place and login and it fails then redirects you to the real website (second login goes in fine)
They have however now captured the login. Ony suspicious thing I noticed first was that when you hovered over the image it was hosted on a free chineese image site.

For what it's worth... Over the years I have noticed that the longer your e mail address, the less spam you receive.

I tend to agree with you on this. Apparently spam bots generate email IDs that make sense, so they use names and surnames which are quite common.

Keeping a primary email address private and getting a free email address for general purpose cut down too much spam to private email address, ( example: for directory submission I have created a seperate free email address ) which is not used for other purpose, also creating email add with combination of numbers, letters and other characters is difficult to track down by spammers. Also while buying stuff online, or signing up for a membership or something remember to ( Uncheck ) the pre-selected check boxes, these are few method by which you can minimize spam.

Yes I agree. But then theres the flip side that this addresses are less valuable, catchy, in demand and also harder for you and your friends to remeber.

Well that would atleast make you less susceptible to be spammed if not completely immune
