I recently decided to have a go with this linux distro, I had the disk sitting there for months before plucking up the will power to install instead of running live from cd. found an old hdd popped in my box and away I went.

It is a whole new learning curve having to things differently. but one I must say I am enjoying greatly, easy to install apps games etc in two places plus manually yourself. there are more programmes available than you will ever need. One I had to try was Beryl a desktop customiser and it gives some fantastic effects. I have managed to capture a few and here they are Click Here ....there are many many more but I am not quick enough to capture them.

If anyone else is using it would like to share ( mainly get) tips/tricks or if you aren't and have capabilities to run it I would recommend it. If you PM me I can send you a cd version and remember it is all FREE my favourite four letter F word.

I have a tip. The most important tip you will ever get.

1. Never come back to Windows (I'm serious!!)

We use Linux at Uni most of the time over Windows. It is great for learning on, fantastic for programming and development and has a lot less problems. A more stress free computing experience!

It is just so use to using certain programmes that I find the most difficult thing, I used Dreamweaver a lot and PSP while Gimp is good takes a little getting to grips with. Komposer is very good as a dreamweaver clone..

But most things aren't too bad, just can't use to file permissions for everything and changing the ones to root to re-write files etc.

Other than that I like it a lot
