Updating Windows With No Internet Connection
Is there any way of updating Windows on a computer with no internet connection? In fact, I have XP SP2 so is it worth it?

I think he means Windows (now Microsoft) updates. Apart from downloading the latest updates on a friends computer with an Internet connection and then manually installing them or waiting for the next service pack CD to be released you can't

I think without internet connection you can not download latest update manually.

You can download the latest updates manually but you will need to do it on a computer with an internet connection then save them to a CD or memory stick and transfer them to the computer without the Internet connection.

If you go to the Microsoft website hosting in the updates section there should be an alternative website hosting to downlaod the updates rather than use the auto install feature. They do this in case you haven't got IE mainly as Firefox can't use the Microsoft Update service .

As you can see downloading all the updates is not an easy task. Thanks Billy G for making things easy (not).

Its not easy but its the only way to do it without waiting for a new service pack or getting an Internet connection for the computer, at least temporarily. Is that not possible?

Yes it is possible, just not convenient. I guess its more convenient than downloading them all manually tho!

Yes, its kind of the lesser of two evils really .
If it is possible I would just connect it up, do the updates and then disconnect the internet connection again. You would only have to do this every once in a while and it means you don't have to work out what updates you need for you computer, which ones you have and haven't got etc .

It is definitely possible to update Micorsoft Windows manually but there are 100% chances for you to miss some thing or install something which was not made for you or something which was not necessary. I would suggest it to let microsoft think about it by enabling Automatic updates.
And if you are not using internet there are only 0.01% chances for you to get compromised or virus prone so why to waste time updating Windows as it is not needed at all. I know there are also some software upgrades but you can have them installed from a CD instead of updating Windows.

I see, this is what I was wondering. It just occurred to me the other day that I didnt actually know if there would be an advantage to having the machine updated if its not on the internet, so I thought I'd ask

Could provide useful updates to help new / old software work and software that already works to be more efficient / have bug fixes corrected. It can also add new features and protect you against certain threats. Finally, it means if you do ever give it a permanent Internet connection you are not hogging all your bandwidth by having to download hundreds of updates .
