I bought this thing that lets you watch the tv on your laptop or pc now you can record live from the tv straight to your hardrive, but it is in the format MPEG 2 does any one know or have any software which could change the format intp WMV or any other format which i could edit in windows movie maker.

do a search for video converters.
i know Virtual Dub will convert movie files in to .avi format.
.avi format is a pretty useful format, since its recognised by many apps.
