Has anyone got good tips for web apps.
Such as CMS, blogs, shopping carts etc.
If they are free even better.

This aint free, but good no the less.
Check out jshop.co.uk for a cool shopping cart builder.
We have brought a developers licence at work and I love it.
It's nice to see a shopping cart aimed first at UK developers rather than USA ones.

Mambo has a nice admin backend to it - and I've seen some nice themes built around it.

best tool i used for blogging is NUCLEUS - its really good, www [dot] faceh [dot com <-- all done with nucleus and plugins. (really easy to write your own plugins).

Personally, i've just started using CVS alot, incl Zends IDE, D.Weaver 8! As for actual PHP scripts, I much prefer using my own code (even going to extents of reinventing the wheel!)

I have found Xoops to be really good. I am pretty sure that there is a shopping card to go with it. Can't comment on that though as I have not used it.

im gonna be checking around soon (as soon as this japanese test is over on Sunday) since my website hosting currently is just an image saying "under construction"... all you guys talking about webdesign and stuff got me back in to it, and so i moved my current website hosting to a subdomain and im busy thinking of new ideas

any new tools, ideas, techniques etc. that i come up with, of course i'll post on here.

I recommend
CMS - Mambo, Joomla, Drupal.
Blog - Wordpress, Typepad
Shopping cart - Quickcart.

IMO, typo3 and e107 are the most powerful CMS with nice features.

I like e107 alot. Used it before has alot of features and addons.

old thread, but i'll use the opportunity to give the e107 system a second vote, Ive tried a few and it was the best I used. Im now donig a few developments for it too, currently working on a tagcloud system for it.

Definately Wordpress for blogging and it can make a pretty powerful CMS too. Plus its very simple to use and theres loads of useful plugins to extend its functionality.
