Word Censoring On The Forum
I compeltely understand the need to have word censoring in place on the forum to stop abuse of the forum and spam.
However is there no way to create a "Trusted Members" group for regular members and posters that have proven they are not going to spam or abuse the forum where the word censoring rules can be slightly relaxed?
Just sometimes there are genunine topics about *** and ****** phones (s-e-x and m-o-b-i-l-e phones for those who cant see!) discussed by regular members.
I don't know if this is possible with the VBuillitin software to create different censoring rules but just thought I would ask!!
Thanks .

Slightly off topic but still forum related: can we get the smilies sorted out so they all work instead of some being little red crossed boxes?!

I agree that s-e-x shouldn't be filtered, it's a perfectlly normal word which you will find in the dictionary. I'm sure there is an option which allows certain members to disable word filtering for themselves.

Already been dealt with in a previous topic (started by me) not too long ago (Forum Smiley Problems - http://www.eukhost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2259).
The conclusion was that Mark would sort it out when he gets a spare moment. But don't forget it is rather low priority compared to the rest of the work he needs to do!!

It needs to be filtered for new users I think and guests as sometimes spammers register and these are popular words to use in spam and by censoring them it stops a lot of spam.
I was just wondering whether there was a rule that could be set that had slightly less restrictive censoring rules for more regular members and frequent posters.

Agreed with on that, but there's no harm in reminding him. And looking at it, it just needs some of the gifs renaming to match what they are on the forum e.g. icon_smile.gif rather than just smile.gif. But yes, important people like Mark do have a lot to do so I can understand why it's not priority.
And perhaps setting a certain number of posts for different filtering settings would solve the problem... That is if it's do-able!

Yes, I am sure that it will be sorted when he gets a minute!! The post isn't that old about it, only around a week so I am sure he hasn't forgot.
Yes, something like word censoring based on post count could work.

username filters were added previously as most of the spammers signup with usernames including Adult phrases but I am not able to figure out why it does the same for posts as well.
I will look into the database of forum to get this sorted.

Cheers for that. It was just an idea and I was not sure whether it could be done, or indeed how easy it is to do.
Thanks for looking into it though!

This is a good idea and obviously we do have those under 18 on our forum so we need to filter the words that are used the most in any case of spam. We delete spam on a week-to-week basis but I do like your suggestion there. I don't think it's possible though with vBulletin either but I will have a look with a demo of vBulletin and let Mark know.

Thank you for looking as well Ben. Maybe someone has released some sort of plugin where this could be implemented? Or some sort of modification. I will also have a look and a search around.
Good Luck to us all finding a way of doing it!
