Default My Website isn't accessible

Hello again

I've installed oscommerce , it was chugging along quite nicely baring in mind I haven't a clue about .php . Then when iw ent back to my website i got this message
'Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration. This can be enabled in your php.ini configuration file or in the .htaccess file in your catalog directory.'
I'm a cut and paster I have no idea what this means whether it's a server problem or an oscommerce thing.

Would anybody somebody just point me in the right direction (dummy version)?

I've had a look at both those files hoping it would just say on or off but no, I suppose I want a snippet of code ot cut and paste and then where to paste it in the file. (hopefullt it won't be more complicated than that.

Cheers and thanks here's hoping.

You normally need root access to see contents of php.ini so I presume you have a VPS or dedicated server? If you do then search in /usr/lib/php.ini for register_globals = and set to On

If you're on shared hosting and you have .htaccess in your OSCommerce folder, then edit it by adding: php_flag register_globals on — it's probably better to use this method unless you're a reseller and you have other potential OSCommerce users.

EDIT: Just noticed you double-posted this enquiry and it's been answered elsewhere and I made a faux pas on my suggestion for editing .htaccess, which I've since corrected!

Hello Gadge
I'm on shared hosting -many thanks for your reply- so if I plonk sorry paste: register_globals = on

onto .htaccess that's it? Is that all no particular place or brackets or anything? Sorry these questions must seem banal but if you don't know the answer ....
really appreciate your help I've been rummaging about all day I shall give it a go but copy and save the original first.
Cheers

No habby, that expression is to be found in php.ini — as I said in my correction note, you were answered in the similar topic you posted, by DavidAllen, who gave the correct info. Here's his answer (click).
