Question Problems with Forum when using <>

For about 3 days now I have suddenly started having problems with my forum www.return2kill.co.uk/forum

For some reason if a post or anything on a page contains <> with anything in between, IE <R2K> which happens to be my clans tags, on submitting the post/thread/or actions within the ACP ? I'm getting redirected back to the home page.

I have even installed a new forum with fantastico with clean database & still get the error.

It's easier to show what i mean that try to explain it. It can be seen by logging into my test forum, www.return2kill.co.uk/phpbb User name - test Password - test

Just make a post & type <anything> click submit to see what happens.

Hoping someone on here can suggest a cure.

Regards

Elv

I just tried your requested experiment and got the same results, using both forum skins (charcoal and silver) — made no difference.

Repeating what I left in my test message, did you see what happens if you allow HTML in messages? Otherwise, I've no idea — sorry!

I did make one suggestion though — convert a copy of your real forum to SMF (using their conversion utility) and see how you like it ...

Thanx for trying.

I'll take a look at smf, but don't really want to change anything yet until my problem hopefully gets sorted ?

You didn't say whether you have allowed HTML and if it made a difference?

Sorry. Yes it's always been allowed. ???

It has to be an Eukhost/domain problem, which I'm hoping will be sorted as I've tried live support but get reply?

Well I went into the Test profile — 'always allow HTML' was disabled there; going into the message editor shows HTML option is OFF — this is why I thought you must have disabled it?

My mistake again, when you said allowing html I only check my original forum, hence saying it's always been on. I've since changed the test forum & it's still the same.

I'm in the process of doing a conversion to smf as you suggested, see how it goes.

Thanx for your suggestions so far.

Ok I installed an smf forum using fantastico, tried the <anything> and got the same redirect....

I am really at a loss now, it has to be a domian/hosting issue ???

Yes I'm inclined to agree — I just installed phpBB2 on a spare domain on my Dedicated Server and it doesn't behave like yours!

Do you use Messenger? support@eukhost.com is online at present. Or you could open a ticket if you haven't already done so ...

I'm no Linux expert, but if I were you, I would have a look at your .htaccess file.

.htaccess is only a text file, most likely located in your /public_html directory because this problem affected an SMF installation too (which I presume was in a different directory to phpBB)? It may well contain parameters that are causing your problem and it would be easiest for Support to check it (as you have no experience of this).

Alternatively, you could post it's contents here (making sure you hide any personal info) or paste it into a PM to me ...

problem was due to mod_security rules for old phpbb forums. I had to remove those rules but our CTO will review those in the morning.

I asked one of our guys to register an account on your forum but now I don't think I'll need it. You can consider upgrading to phpbb3 as people have said many good things about it.

Well.... It's almost fixed, I have just tried to instal easymod, (which was installed before the problem but in desperation thinking it was the forum causing the problem. I carried out a complete fresh install) & when finalising installation I get the same redirect.

The forum posting & updating profiles etc seems great, so maybe theres still a problem there somewhere ???

You should Thank Gadge before me as he went all the way to help you though he cannot see logs on the server.
