I found it quite easy to adapt and use. support isn't too bad for it, a ticket may take around 24 hours to be answered but for a Freebie thats is good.

The scripts themselves are fairly easy to change and adapt for anyone with a bit of html/php knowledge. I stuck to the standard theme and just changed colours and graphics. I tried to bridge SMF forum but the script fails and haven't had an answer from the mod author.
The built in forum is very basic thats why I added SMF . the chatroom is good, the blogs could do with a couple of features added.

There is a host of Mods, both free and Pay for. I have just got one called Hotshots enabling video, mp3 to be played on the website. will install it later.

The only problem I had was over the activation e-mail not displaying the link as clickable and sometime people didn't recieve it, so I changed the output template and I activate users accounts. seems to work OK . I tried another supposed free social dating script called Dolphin, there were more bugs in that than an ant's nest, mods and skins cost an arm and a leg, . One of the most difficult and frustrating things I have tried.

All in all I rate Phpzabi quite highly and would hesitate to give it a run

Cheers for all that information on phpzabi - sounds really good - I am surprised I have not heard of it before but the first time I ever heard it was when you mentioned it in another post.

Free always sounds better .

Free has more appeal to developing a custom version in your spare time to suit your needs.

A paid script - normally means better support but also means you want modifications done - which generally cost per mod if you can't do it yourself.

A free script means you can try out all the other free mods that communities develop for them - eventually you may find yourself only using part of the script - stripping it down and having a nice custom website for free. Obviously not totally free as you would have spent a lot of time developing it - but it saves getting burned by some of the useless paid-for scripts out there.

One that wasn't mentioned and I have seen an increased community development was joomla - I never used it personally - but they do have a social mod from what I remember reading.

Joomla! never seems that popular round here due to major security issues and the problems it creates with security rules that eUKhost implement.
