Default Using Joomla on Vigilant Windows Servers

Hello all...

I am using joomla for my website on the Vigilant windows server and have found that I get this warning message in my admin section...

PHP register_globals setting is `ON` instead of `OFF`

Please could someone advise me how to cure this...

Thanks

Paul

IMO, you should talk to eUKhost support staff or open a support ticket and ask them to turn it off. The reason why you should contact eukhost first is, it is security risk for quite a few scripts.

Yes, I have used Joomla! in the past without following its advise on this one and it still seemed to work pefectly fine for me. The reason I didn't comply with its request on this is, as has been said, the security risks involved.

I would advise against getting this setting changed as I don't really think it affects Joomlas functionality all that much.

If this setting is not making any problems for your Joomla installation then I would suggest you to keep it On. If you need it to be turned off for your account then open a ticket for our windows support team and they will take care of it.

As I said, it never caused problems with me so I doubt that you will need to switch it off Paul.

I would suggest you leave it on also. Has it actually caused you any problems so far?

Thanks for all your answer.

I have recently had problems with Joomla which I think was caused by a hacker (index files going missing etc ) so I was looking at ways to increase security.... but by the sounds of the replies, this feature is not worth turning off so I will leave it on.

Thanks for all that replied to my question.

Paul

I think you have made a wise decision. It is hard to keep scripts like Joomla! secure so you need to do everything in your power that you can do to maintain security rather than make it easier for the hackers. Especially if you have had problems with hackers recently.
