Default mysql location?

hi all, this might be a daft question, but when you create a MySQL Server database in cPanel, where does it actually put the database? ie. within my directory structure.

the reason I ask is because I have an SQL Server database for my Zen Cart which I run on an old website hosting with another hosting company. I want to migrate this shopping cart to my new website hosting on eukhost. as such, I am guessing I take a homedirectory back up in cPanel from my old host, then take an SQL Server database back up also in cPanel. Then go to my cPanel on my eukhost website hosting and upload / recover the SQL Server database and home directory backups. Does this sound right?!?! I wanted to full understand where the SQL Server file would be uploaded to before I went ahead and just did it all 'blindly' incase I screw things up.

Any advice, guidance would be of great help.

Cheers, widget

MySQL databases are stored in /var/lib/mysql/ and you dont have access to that path on the server. Once you upload your database backup and restore it, it will go in /var/lib/mysql/ but there is no other way to enter /var/lib/mysql directory on the server.

You need to make full backup of your acconut on old host and restore it over here. Easiest way is to provide cpanel login details of your previous host to our support team and we will move your data from old host to our server. We will need to recreate your account so make sure that you open a ticket and mention in it that you dont have any important data in your account hosted with us and you allow us to delete your account and fetch fresh data from your account with old host.

thanks for the reply, and explanation.

Just one thing, the main reason I decided not to move my WHOLE website hosting from my old host to yourself it that I had a lot of rubbish set up on the load one that I dont need and didnt want to bring over. Therefore, I just wanted to bring the folder where my Zen Cart files are all installed, and also the MySQL Server database associated with it. Do you think that this isn't really possible then?

Manual transfer wont be much difficult in that case. It will take only 5 - 10 mins for you to download the directory which has got zencart installation and 5 - 10 mins to dumpt the database in a .sql file and move it over here.

If you want us to do this for you then open a ticket and include necessary information. We will do this for you and the ticket would be answered before tomorrow morning as it can tke some time for our system admins to move the data and verify once done.
