Am I wrong to refuse IE?
I know how many people still use IE, especially IE6, but today I refused any page loads coming from an Internet Explorer browser, I'm sick and tired of making different CSS layouts for it.
I don't care if it will lose me customers, but I've spent too long catering for people who don't know what a browser is (IE6 users) and people who can't be bothered to get a browser that works.
Can somone confirm whether IE8 follows in the path of its predecesors in being unable to render web pages and putting two fingers up at the W3 guidelines? Or does that need to be added to be blacklisted also?

Yes you are wrong.
That is, unless you want to turn 85% of potential customers away then you are doing the right thing.

I've got to agree with Brian here. IE is a default on Windows and the vast majority of users use whats given to them, in this case IE.
You will lose a lot of custom through this but if thats what you want....... it is an illogical step though. Have you looked at your stats software to see how many of your visitors use IE? As that percentage is the number of visitors you have just alienated.

Don't stretch yourself for long hours without a break.
I can see understand frustration, but you should give your 100% if you care for your customers.

Yeah, and even though IE8 won't be 100% with your templates at the moment, it is still in BETA . Even the phpBB team has made a report about IE8 problems

My preferred option...
- Code/style so that the site works in Firefox, generally it will also work in Opera. Google Chrome seems to be slightly more picky at present in regards to font being specified.
- Then use conditional stylesheets for IE, which generally requires minor tweaks and doesn't mean messing up your exisiting code. You can usually override CSS by adding !important to lines.
Example code...
HTML Code:
<!--[if lt IE 7]>
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style_ie6.css" />
<![endif]-->
...more online at Internet Explorer conditional comments
Oh and IE8 beta's are an a*** as they break sites in new ways. I'm waiting until they get to release candidate stage before adding in fixes for it as relatively few people are using IE8 and that's a risk of beta products.

Yeah, IE may be stupid when it comes to formatting but any lower level user running windows uses it as the main browser as it's pre-installed.
Hopefully IE8 will help with formatting things but as said previsously, I'm going to be waiting until it gets out of Beta.

Which is not too far away either, IE 8 final release is supposedly slated for a November release as proclaimed during the release of IE 8 Beta 2 in August.
