My School has one desktop that has Windows 98, probably has IE3!!  - good job they installed Firefox on it  .

Yup. Bear in mind this has been upgraded to 98 from 95.

My previous teacher has a laptop with 98 I think - works perfectly  .

Yes it does! And providing you don't internet it without a firewall etc. it should be fine. Obviously security patches aren't being released for it but overall 98 worked pretty well.
