Securing phpBB forums against spam???

Got a set of forums up and running for a customer.

Having used phpBB before for forums I had quite a few problems with spam posts which eventually ended up with me closing them down.

I've used the phpBB Wizard in my CPanel to create my forums for this customer and at first, it seemed as if they were reasonably immune from spam posts and bots.

I have Catpcha enabled on them and it appeared to be keeping them out.

But over the past few days I have had to ban a good few users, email addresses and IP's from them.

This has gotten worse tonight as I've just checked and I've got another 4 new users registered, all spammers.

How on earth do I keep these idiots out?.

Is there anything more secure I can add to the forums, maybe a better Catpcha than I have just now, or any other method of securing it?.

It's doing my nut in.....!!!!.

Actually there is no silver bullet to kill these idiots, one more option for you- ban the IP all of Europe, Nigeria, Russia, China, Brazil, and Vietnam.
