Just a thought - if many of us opt for RoR maybe we could share private libraries (e.g. things we would prefer did not go very public). I used to be part of a C++ group that did this in the past and it saved masses of time. Unfortunately code cannot be as well hidden as compiled stuff, but as I said - just a thought.

I have been searching all day since early this morning for a tutorial or guide that'd help me grasp the basics of RoR but cannot find much at all. Anyone know any sites that'd help me? I only got to installing InstantRails and its all working fine.

Thanks for the links David. I am also going to go and check them out as I am getting a growing interest in Ruby .

Also from what I have seen is seems to be rather powerful and useful and looks like it may cement itself in the world of programming sooner rather than later .
It seems to me more professionals use ASP.NET, rather more freelancers use PHP - but corporate companies use JSP - very strange.

But come on guys, what is your favourite out of PHP & ASP.NET. Out of PHP & ASP.NET i'd say ASP.NET is the best. Microsoft somehow have made something very powerful and it is probably the best product they provide :P.

Well I'm a big proponent of open source and cross platform software, so from that point of view PHP would get my vote.
Not that I hate Microsoft or anything, like some people do, I just think in the long run open source will prevail.

Yes, I do agree in such a fashion. Many programming languages are becoming open source - and as such Ruby on Rails is open source - and to be quite frank that's becoming increasingly popular in the USA & Europe. Especially with 2.0 coming out soon. I do like open source programming too - no doubt, because that means people follow on the favour and make their PHP scripts open source. Wouldn't it be good if ASP.NET was cross-platform? I doubt Microsoft would ever do it - not now at least. But jumping partially on the subject of this discussion - what is your favourite programming language of all? - And why?
Mine would be ASP.NET - Thomas would completely disagree with me - he hates Microsoft products all together. The thing is ASP.NET is really powerful, I have discovered so many things that fixes things that occur on everyday programming, and with a bundle of different technologies. It just seems, in my opinion, that ASP.NET is Microsoft's best invention of all.
And going back to the discussion of 'hating Microsoft' - Not that I don't like it, but Microsoft have a reputation for making products like Vista - not that it's not good, I think it looks fantastic - but so many bugs. As the old saying goes 'That's Microsoft for you'

Mark: " ASP.NET is Microsoft product so they wont allow ASP.NET to work on Linux. Though you have chillisoft ASP for Linux to support classic ASP but ASP.NEt will work on Windows only."
Ben: " Wouldn't it be good if ASP.NET was cross-platform? I doubt Microsoft would ever do it - not now at least."
For the record, ASP.Net in now available on Linux via Novell's Mono project:

However, I've no personal experience of using it on Linux.
Ben: " Not that I don't like it, but Microsoft have a reputation for making products like Vista - not that it's not good, I think it looks fantastic - but so many bugs. As the old saying goes 'That's Microsoft for you' "
Microsoft's version 1 products have a reputation for being buggy, but they get it right a few versions later, e.g. Windows 3, VB3, Windows XP SP2, ASP.Net 2, and (possibly this month) Vista SP1.
