40 Million Hosting Companies
Based on the responses received by Netcraft in sept 2007 survey, there are out 135,166,473 web website hostings on the web, the rate of growth is around 5.5% for the month. There seems to be roughly 40 million hosting companies are there around the world. As a user it is really very high time to choose one of the best hosting company, also the growth in number of website hostings and hosting companies are opening new avenues and as well making this business more competitive.

Yep. That seems to be true. competition is increasing in Web hosting field.
Even we are forced to keep on improving as you can never leave any glitch to allow someone to pull your customers. In one sense its good to see growth in number of hosting companies as that has given us opportunity to sell more number of reseller hosting plans, VPS Hosting as well as Dedicated Servers

Yes, competition always keep competitive people grow, looking part of the growth in the number of website hostings I think blog might have contributed fairly and open a new avenue for blog hosting. I too think there are good scope for those who want to start hosting business through reseller hosting plan.

Competition is increasing everywhere on the web. So website hostings are growing by 5.5%. How much is new visitors growing or the use of the internet growing on the web. If it is lower than 5.5% then it will show that the competition is becoming a lot thougher as more people are trying to get the same traffic to what we are.

The 5.5% growth is around 7.6 million website hostings since added in last month and the growth rate of visitors are around 10% of the world traffic, that's nothing bad, India, China and Russia experience highest audience growth rates. Yea tough competition will be always there even you try out to target those countries which have highest audience growth rate, you're going to face local competitions as well.

I reckon competition is always for the good. It gives us an opportunity to look at the business of other companies & see how it functions. This in turn would help us to continuously re-invent ourselves & make sure we are ahead of the competition.
It also gives an opportunity to set the trend to come for others.

I definately agree with that. I've just set up my own website hosting design and hosting business and I looked around to see what else was on offer from other companies for ideas for my own business. I then improved on some areas where I felt they were lacking. I've customised packages to fit my clients needs after seeing what other companies offer and I also offer update services which I found lacking from other companies in my area.
So although the competition is there, I feel I've improved on it for the client base I'm aiming at.

What I like most, these competitors keeps you hungry and create a marketplace for you, make you more efficient in operations and you start to innovate your unique core strengths.

Well all this competition is definitely good for the customer - maybe not so good for the hosting companies. But then again, we all know there is only one hosting company really don't we? .

Its so good that there is no such thing as a monopolist market within the hosting industry because i don't think the government could ever regulate the internet unless they took total control
I have never come across price fixing across companies in the hosting industry and don't know if i ever would, because everyone is in such tense competition.

At this juncture, the hosting companies need to find a way out either going vertical way or start providing value added service targeting many large and complex Web sites, there will be less competition for quality service providers.
