Default Cheap Monitoring Service (with your help!)

After several years feeling that some monitoring services are far too expensive for what they are, I have recently set up a monitoring service as part of the reseller package from a leading supplier. This can be found at:

www.monitor.checker-design.com

With this, I am not trying to make a profit and what I charge just covers my costs. However, the more people that sign up, the more discount I get from my supplier and as such, the more I can pass on price reductions to anyone using the service.

The basic thing is, the more people who sign up to paid services, the cheaper it becomes for everyone. First off, there is an entirely free, fully functioning 14 day trial (no credit card etc. required) which allows you to trial the service. After this, you can keep your account and it reverts to 60 minute monitoring or pay for one of the monitoring services from 1-15 minutes. These range in price from £5.75-£1.10 a month with a 5% discount if you pay yearly. These prices are per service e.g. http, pop, smtp etc. and are pretty standard prices throughout for monitoring industry. Hopefully with more people joining however I will be able to cut these down to make this a very cheap service for everyone using it.

Monitoring is done from servers around the world preventing false alerts. These alerts can be sent to an email account (obviously this needs to be external to the server you're monitoring) or to a mobile phone. These texts are charged at 12p each. You also have the option of sending "Reboot Requests" to support automatically and also you can be contacted when the service comes back online.

As I say, the more people who sign up, the cheaper it will be for all of us as I will pass any reduction in costs I receive onto the people using the service. With this in mind, please pass this on to anyone else you know who may be interested as the more paid tests there are, the more the reduction in costs to both myself and consequently you!

I hope it will be some use to everyone on the forum and even if you don't want to have a paid service, I would recommend getting a free account anyway so you can see what it's like! With the service being from a leader in monitoring, the quality of service certainly can't be doubted - I've not had one problem in months of dealing with them!

The service and more information can be found at www.monitor.checker-design.com

I'm just hoping people use it! I am trying to undercut the bigger suppliers though so I can only hope!

Any thing that provides good service will be used widely in the hosting bussiness regardless of its cost. We just have to be patient.

I like the look of this service as it is a proactive way of keeping tabs on my website hosting.

The only thing that I am not sure about is the degree to which it can monitor my website hosting. Clearly if the webserver is down the this tool will spot it. But what about if the website hosting is accessible and yet it is unable to connect to its ms SQL Server databse - this would give a customer my website hosting's error page?

Thanks in anticipation.

Hi Chris,
The service allows you to specify key words which should appear on the page. If they don't appear, it realises something is wrong and will contact you. You can see more here:

http://www.monitor.checker-design.co...nswer&faqid=23

You are also able to monitor the MySQL daemon is working but this would involve allowing the IP addresses of the monitoring station through your server firewall. Depending on your system, that may or may not be possible i.e. support might not be too keen to add them on a shared server but if you have your own VPS Hosting or higher it shouldn't be a problem.

Hope that answers your question.

I've had a couple of people join up to this now. As I say, if you've never had monitoring before this could be a nice way to see if it could benefit for it with a risk free 14 day trial! So come along, sign up and enjoy!

Yes - I've been using this for around half a month now - really good system; especially the SMS notifications!
