45,768,430 search.yahoo.com/search?p=site:superpages.com

3,59,000 google.com/search?q=site:smartpages.com
3,93,506 search.yahoo.com/search?p=site:smartpages.com

10,100,000 google.com/search?q=site:citysearch.com

Anyway the first or second page is more important as most of the people rely on the information they get in the top few results, the reason search engines algorithm can sometimes lead to unexpected results, I could not able to comment more on this just on my personal observation yahoo goes more into depth in wikipedia that is the reason the unexpected result is reflected there.

Yeah it's true that Google shows you the results which are the most important one. While Yahoo shows all the results in one go. Have you tried to navigate to the end of the yahoo search results. You will not see the exact figure on the end page, it will be ended abruptly. For my website hosting it showed around 4,40,800 count and able to get to view 1,20,400. Did not able to understand this. Did you notice this?

IMO majority of people prefer Google.Whenever I think of search the first thing that comes to my mind is Google. They are the best and have the best people working for them.

No,I didn’t notice that but will surely check it out. I hope it’s like what you just mentioned because personally I too rely on Google but it’s not what Yahoo users would expect from Yahoo.

I totally agree with you on this though I'm not sure of how long they will be at the pole position.

Google will remain on top as long as they don't become yahoo.

Yahoo search is not generic search as its results are biased and those who have their paid listing as well as paid advertising running with yahoo get better ranking.

Well eukhost that is so true as even I’ve read about the Yahoo
procedure of getting search results in some issue and that’s the
reason majority of the people rely on Google results than Yahoo.

Majority of the people find google more a product of both "habit and accessibility" & obviously there are no solid competitor, that might be the reason it is most preferred search engine. As an user perspective the reliability depends on the information the users get in the top few results most of the time, if they are not satisfied with the results the users prefer to move to other search engines instead of going through each pages of the search results.

I agree with eukhost that google will remain number one. I just laugh out after reading this article, where yahoo's Vice President Bradley Horowitz himself says that the Battle just starting, We're three steps into a marathon, www. infoworld.com/article/06/06/21/79493_HNsearchbattle_1.html

I would say the battle of search engine market has already won by google.

Both the companies have their own merits and algorithm for Search . But for sure , Speed and Simplicity are the major factors where Google beat Yahoo .

There is no doubt about Google being better than Yahoo in terms of search engines because of their impartial results created for the users as its well known. People are so used to it for its reliability and usability that from kids to elderly people know just one name and that is Google when it comes to get any information. I’m personally a Googler myself.
