There is an interesting topics going on InformationWeek, that argues that Web need ways to verify identity and measure reputation, a company that is called "profile of opinity" (No link found) is trying to introduce a reputation system with an idea of online reputation and identity.

God think of how many peoples reputations (such as annoying spammers) would be dragged through the mud and get treated as their deserved. It brings an evil smile to my face!
Well, I think background will be one of the parameter for reputations, but just wondering how they are going to gather thousand of positive feedbacks? And how they will transfer reputation earned in one place to other places? Whether companies will disclose the reputation of their customers on web even that entail some kind of reputation discount?

You never know. I would like to know how well protected from abuse it is though. People with bad reps will try anything to get good reps even if it means decieving the system.
