I have used osCommerce and Agora so far and I like osCommerce. I prefer php / MySQL Server shopping carts as asp.net has never made me feel comfortable.

I dont know much about others but would like to hear from other members about other shopping carts.

My first vote for x-cart and second for osCommerce. If you compare both carts osCommerce is fully free of charge but it comes with lots of work to do like configurations and security issues where x-cart is kind of a free, except the license fee. But it has lots of features which osCommerce doesn't support.

I prefer Zencart as it gives options to modify the look and the feel of the store along with other useful features. Yes there are some issues with it and I may think about switching to osCommerce shortly.

one more vote for Zen Cart.
It can be installed by anyone knows computers. It has SSL Security protocol for protection from malicious attacks, website hostings can be easily upgraded, and have many more features…

I can't really vote, as I have only used ZenCart. However I can't see my ever needing anything else, especially with the UK patch for it. Its very powerful, configurable and recomended.

Actually if you have good technical knowledge then I would suggest any open source cart will work for you as you yourself will be able to customize it according to your business needs. From the available open source shopping cart softwares, I would like to give my vote to X-Cart, for many other good reasons.
X-Cart is completely friendly with any kind of Hosting servers and offers almost all the great features available in a shopping cart package. It is also one of the most economical e-commerce solutions around. I would suggest to go for X-Cart. It also offers 30 day money back gurantee.

If you are using zencart and you are happy with its UK patch then vote for it. We need to contribute towards growth of this opensource shopping carts and your vote will help zencart if you are happy with it. I dont think any of our existing customers must have tried all 10 mentioned over here but thats the reason we have started this pole.

I would request other members as well to share their views about the shopping carts they have used.

I have voted for osCommerce because of its good features and user

accessibility especially the feature of database backup and restore,

multi-currency support via manual update from exchange rate server,

the support for dynamic images and some other features too which are

significant. Among the other shopping carts i think Zen Cart,X Cart and

Storefront are also good choices if to be made other than osCommerce. It

totally depends on what specific features someone is looking for to make

the decision of choosing a shopping cart.

Default Web hosting tutorials

If you would ask me, i would rather go in for oscommerce for its multi-task oppotunity.
e.g. - its payment options methods, however, on the other hand, i have even kept a eye on Zent Cart and its UK patch. Have a look at these tutorials, these are from the support department of eukhost.

What can you recommend for a complete beginner? I tried oscommerce but found it far too complicated. I nned something compatible with Nochex and it must be VERY easy to use.

Agora is quite simple to configure. You can try installing Zencart, Cubecart and Agora from Fantastico and cpanel addon scripts. It can never be simple when it comes to shopping cart but readme and tutorials will help at some extent and you will have to take some pain to learn this softwares.

I recommend Zen-Cart as the best shopping cart. It is secure and easily modified. You can change the overall look by CSS only or rewrite some of the files for a unique look. There are also a gazillion customisable templates out there if you look. The Zen-Cart engine is OSCommerce with added features and a more friendly admin panel.

OSCommerce is a good shopping cart but in my opinion is not as secure as Zen-Cart and is harder to customise.

CubeCart is really not a very good shopping cart for me. It is hard to customise and lacks some features the others have.

You seem to have good experience with shopping carts.

I'll take your word and work on ZenCart during vacation

Well, better it depends on your need and what you are comfortable with and the merchant option that you are going to use with that cart. Both oscommerce and zencart are good and SE friendly while zencart is easy to set-up than OSC.
