Yahoo answer is interesting method to build traffic, it also boost up your Yahoo ranking significantly. To participate in yahoo answer is extremely easy; you need yahoo account and start answering people's questions and place a link back to your website hosting as a resource just below your answer. You also get recognition if your answer is selected as best answer.

No, don't think Google do a service or a service similar to Yahoo! Answers.

Google infact had started a service similar to Yahoo Answers called Google Answers but the service was not free to use and it is no longer active. You can read more about Google Answers at http://answers.google.com/answers/faq.html#whatis

I remember Google Answers. If my memory serves me correctly you asked a question and said how much you were willing to offer and researches researched the topic and answered it to the level you asked them to.

It was quite a good service but Yahoo Answers does seem to be a bit better (and of course cheaper being free )

Exactly! Users post a question and specify how much they were willing to pay for an answer. A Researcher then searched for the required information and posted it to Google Answers. Users were only charged for questions when an answer was posted to it.

Did you have to have certain qualifications to answer and become a researcher? Thats the thing I can't remember?

I should have signed up on it and made a bit of cash on the side! - sometimes there was quite a bit of money being offered for a few hours work!!

There was no specific qualification required to become a Google Answers Researcher. The Researchers were required to go through an application process that tested their research skills and the quality of their answers.

lol, so that translates to no blatent plugging then

I am surprised that they allow this because I can see some businesses signing up for Yahoo Answers and trying to abuse it in this way.
